Not sure how old they are. I bought them used about 2yrs ago. Both work great. Just an FYI: the Shadow X2 is a Tesoro metal detector that has been modified by a company in Prescott, AZ. (I think Tesoro is also in Prescott, but not sure). They modify the electronic circuitry to make them more sensitive and add a couple of features not offered by Tesoro. They then put their own faceplate with the Troy Shadow X2 name on it. It is (was) my favorite detector. I downloaded and printed the manuals for each one off the internet and is included. The whole setup is ready to go and you will have pretty much everything you need to do coinshooting, relic hunting, etc.
I have owned several other more expensive detectors that I have since got rid of because there were way too many buttons and knobs that needed to be adjusted before you could use it. I just want to basically turn it on and make one or two tweaks and start hunting. That's why I bought these. The wife and I haven't used these in about a year and decided to get rid of them because someone else can still get years of good use out them + plus the extra gear that goes with them.
