Transom Mount HDI Transducer on a Champion 181?

Wanted to see if anyone has any experiences on mounting a Lowrance HDI transducer on the transom of a Champion 181? I'm contemplating on whether to mount it in-hull or on the transom. After doing a bit of reading, it sounds like an in-hull mount would reduce the DI quality. So, now I'm contemplating mounting it on the transom. But I don't want any issues with cavitation and if possible, would like to have readings on a plane.

Anyone here have a HDI ducer on the transom? Any pics of location or advice you can provide would be great. Thanks in advance.

We found that on most champs you have to move the transducer down to the bottom step if you want to use the sonar on plane. We mounted one on the upper step and he said he totally lost the bottom once moving very fast. If you are not worried about sonar or DSI on plane then the better protected second step mounting is best. I would not install a DSI transducer thru the hull.
