Had 40 minutes to kill between meetings in Tempe today so I hit up the middle lake with my weightless senko. Caught two fun size bass (best was about 1.5 lbs) casting out towards the middle just north of the island. I saw several small males sitting on beds but couldn't get any of them to bite.

If I'm not mistaken, the southernmost lake is catch & release only. Not sure about the northernmost lake. I've only fished the middle lake (about 5yrs ago). Lot of bass in there and carp too.

All of the lakes @ the research park are catch and release.

Well, the signs @ the research park and the website say two different things.

that lake seems to be more clear than any others in the valley...

Very well could be now. The last time I was there was about 5 or 6 years ago. The southernmost lake had a sign that specifically stated catch and release. I didn't see any signs at the middle lake and I had never fished the northernmost lake.

Not sure I would want to keep anything out those lakes anyway.

they changed the sign on the lakes a few years ago and some didnt get removed, the middle lake says encourages, the other 2 say catch and release only, and they sign say no barbed hooks
