January Fish Habitat
Hi Everyone,
Our January habitat days are scheduled for 1/12/2016-Tuesday and 1/15/2016-Friday)and we need to get a head count to see if we have enough volunteers. With the holidays I wanted to give everyone plenty of notice. Please email me ([email protected] /pm/call (623-236-7593) if you haven't already to let me know if you can attend either of the January dates. We will be meeting at 9:00 am at the Mesa Game and Fish Office (7200 E University Drive; Mesa, Arizona 85207). For the pour the cement truck will be scheduled to arrive between 10:30 and 11:00 am. Any and all help is welcomed, 18 years or older. Children 14 to 17 years old need to be accompanies by an adult who will supervise them. If you have younger children (7-13) interested they can help out as well as long as they are being directly supervised at all times by a parent or guardian. We will provide all the tools along with an ice-chest full of bottled water. We have a limited number of work gloves available and I suggest bringing your own pair in case we run out. The molds are made of fiberglass so dress accordingly, long-sleeved shirts and pants are recommended. Closed-toe shoes are required. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen as there is minimal shade and most of the work is in direct sunlight. We have also scheduled the rest of the habitat dates: Thursday February 11 and Friday February 12 Monday March 14 and Tuesday March 15 |

So far we have 4 volunteers for January 12th and 3 Volunteers for January 15th. We need at least 3 more volunteers for both days to build the habitat. Email [email protected] or call as 623-236-7593 if you would like to signup to volunteer.

I will be there both days. I was able to take off work from 9-1 both days. If anyone can even get out for an hr or two on one or both days would be a help.. Thanks Ms Jones

Ha. No... However, as pathetic as it is, we are putting together some great raffle prizes for those that volunteer. We haven't worked out all the details yet but it will be something like each time you volunteer you get a free ticket and we will do a draw after each event for a prize and then a huge prize draw for people that volunteer participate 4 or more times in the season. We have solid prize packs (rods, reels, baits etc..) and people like Josh Bertrand and Brett Hite offering up guide trips! It will be well worth people making these events... More to come when we have things finalized.

So far we have built 87 Concrete Fish Balls and will be making 12 more this week. We are building a stockpile for a couple of reasons. The first is to be ready to place as much habitat as possible once we get approval and the second is to allow the pH to balance so algae can start to grow right away and provide food.
We do plan on placing brush habitat as well as other structures, Mossback Safe Havens and potentially Georgia Cubes and Fishiding structures. One of the downsides to brush habitat is that it degrades overtime. Concrete and plastic structures have a longer lifespan. We try to have a few of the habitat days on the weekend to accommodate the people who work during the week. I can try to have a few more on the weekends next go around if that will help people come out. |
