GIZZARD SHAD
Don't know why the AZ game and fish dept. Think that anglers are stupid? But I reported there were Gizzard Shad in the Salt River lat year in April. Caught one 13" long. And reported to fish and game. The man I talked to asked me? Are you sure it's a Gizzard Shad? Yes, I said I know the difference between the two. He asked me next time you catch one will you bring it to us? I said well the dept. has more money than I do. And if you think I don't know my ___. Then just keep, drawing your pay check. Good Bye.

Nothing more aggrivating than a bitchy armchair Biologist.

Reply to StickBait. Just thought they would have done some checks with gill nets,or electroshocking. Reply to Excalibur. Can you tell the difference between a Largemouth Bass and a Smallmouth Bass? Kinda simple HUH?

Electroshocking and gill net surveys cost money to do. I'm not saying they shouldn't have done it, it would have been nice for sure. But look at it from their stand point. Going off someones word is tough, look how mags was on a great blue cat bite on Canyon, when in fact he was probably mistaking channels. I bet G&F get a ton of calls similiar to yours and they would go broke investigating every verbal claim. Now what you should have done was keep the fish to take to them. I bet they would have even came and picked it up from you. What did you do with it anyways? Let it go?

I understand. I cut it up and used it for flathead bait. And the Man I talked to with Fish and Game. Asked me, if next time I caught what I thought was a Gizzard Shad if I could bring it to their office.

Actually, they did do surveys. Two nights of gillnets, you can contact Jim Warnecke at the Mesa Regional office to find out the results but I had dinner with him last Thursday and they didn't catch any gizzard shad if I remember correctly.
