Hi I'm a new guy

Going fishing at Saguro lake Friday morning. My Pro set me up with two Druckett rods, two Abu Garcia Rivo reels and a bunch of lures and crank baits.

I've been practicing tying knots and casting in the pool to see the actions of the bait.

Any hints on catching a big one?

Can you even cast that? Played with ducketts, did you get an off brand?

My advice (for what it's worth):
1. Spend time on the water.
2. Take notes every time you go out of the conditions, how you caught your fish, depth, water temp, etc.
3. Learn to recognize the seasonal patterns of the fish. After a year + you will start seeing patterns in your fishing notes.
4. Hire a guide and/or enter Pro/Am tournaments where you can learn from people who are knowledgeable.
5. Instead of trying to catch a big one try catching a fish. After you catch one, try to catch another one.
6. There are no absolutes. If you go out on the lake and talk to 5 different people, they may be using 5 different methods to catch their fish
7. Nobody's going to tell you their spots you'll need to figure that our yourself.

I'm sure people will add more but that's a start. Good luck!!
