Canyon 6-12

Took my oldest boy out for the afternoon and evening. Lot of lake lice for a Friday. Fishing was like we were at Bartlett, 20+ fish but only a couple over 2lb. Good fun for the kid. He spotted some sheep coming down for a drink:

We were there yesterday evening from about 5:30 p.m. until dark....One of our Bass went about 4 lbs. Didn't do as well as you on numbers, but we caught 2 walleye right before dark on reaction baits.

That was cool! I had never caught a Walleye at Canyon before. Lots at Apache, but never at Canyon.

They measured between 16-17" long.
I didn't know they stocked any in there in the last few years.
They were very fat and healthy!

BTW, It looked like a Champion Boats convention on the lake ! I must have seen 5 or six other Champs out there!

Nice job on the 4 and the walleye.

We were in the little skeeter. Started up in the river and worked back towards the ramp.

Nice to hear about the walleye, interesting. G&F must have put some in canyon when they stocked apache or they washed down. We have looked for them at Apache this year with no success, been a while since I've even seen one. Thanks for the report!

Many year ago my friend from work scuba dived canyon quite a bit near the marina and said he always saw schools of walleye there. Nothing real big but mainly by a steep rock wall. I'm not familiar with canyon so I wouldn't know the area he talked about. I think it was near a bride or something. He said the toothy bastards always scared him because they would come right up to him like a lmb. Lol

Walleye and yellow lake perch are two of the best tasting freshwater fish I've eaten. I think Culver's serves a walleye meal but I've never tried it. I just can't bring myself to try it after memories of frying them up on the shoreline in northern Ontario Canada. I've heard there is a bar and grill up in the Paradise Valley area that is run by a couple originally from Michigan that serves a good walleye meal but I can't remember the name of the place.

Here's my eye from the last trip to Canyon. I concur they are the best eating deep fried freshwater fish ...

There has been several caught within the last couple of weeks. Throw the jerk bait an you may be rewarded. Actually the lake is on fire, easy 30-70 fish day, if you can stand the heat, and you don't even have to leave the main lake.
