Several of our committee members were at the Cholla lot yesterday and met with the FLW team. I’m impressed, these guys are very low key, humble and respectful of anything required by law enforcement agencies and the communities. This is the first time I’ve met Chris Jones, FLW Stren Director, and he is a class act and has the exact personality needed for this his job.

The GCSO performed safety inspections on over 60 boats by 2PM yesterday. I was told a few boats were not given a safety inspection card due to not having a throw ring/pad or having a depressurized fire extinguisher. I watched a couple of inspections and they took about 3 minutes. Most guys wanted to sit there and talk! Good thing there were enough staff to handle the flow. Also, I learned yesterday that if you see a GCSO boat on the water today they will perform the inspection right there and issue an inspection card, so if you see the GCSO boat, drive over to them and save a trip to Cholla.

A representative from TNF was there. Be sure to purchase a parking pass if you attend. Also, don’t “forget” to scratch off the appropriate dates on the hanger. The 188 Tackle and Supply and the Tackle Box in Tonto Basin have purchased and extra supply of passes so you can pick them up there.

Three maintenance trailers are set up in the Cholla lot. They are Ranger, Evenrude and Mercury. These guys will do warranty work for any participants in the tournament. I spoke with a few of these guys and they’re looking forward to supporting our fishermen however they can. Seriously, stop and talk with these guys, they are impressive and the Ranger guy’s name is Willy Nelson…..not kidding!

I called the FLW registration yesterday to confirm that if someone wants to enter the tournament at the last minute how can he/she do it. They said that it can be done at the final registration at the Mazatzal Casino this evening from 4-7PM. PROVIDED there is a counter-part to pair you up with. If a pro and co-angler show up as a team, at the meeting they will be entered. I heard yesterday that we had “a few” more pros than co-anglers which amazes me. If you’re a co-angler this is a great opportunity to be part of a national level first class tournament and as a minimum, basically, a two day guided fishing trip on your home lake for $325. The FLW number is 270-252-1000

We went over a bunch of rules yesterday with the FLW team. Slot sizes (one slot fish can be weighed during this tournament), no wake and no entry areas. All of this will be discussed at the pre-tournament meeting. Experts from several law agencies will be on hand to answer questions.

Since time is so short and I’ll be at Cholla most of the day, I’ll give out my cell phone number. If you have questions that I may be able to help with, give me a call, 480-495-1351

I agree... If I paid $825 for that Pro "title"... some non-boater would be screwed. They should have some kind of guidelines to be a "pro".

I just don't see being backseated at a Stren event as a fair comparison to hiring a guide. The guide probably wants you to catch a few...
