Dog days of summer

The heat is here and if you have dogs here is a tip to help them out.
Get some block and build a 8 foot x 4 foot square in the shade.
Make sure the block can't move and is secure.
Did out inside of block about 1-1/2 foot deep and fill with sand.
Soak the sand pit in the morning.
Soon as they discover how cool the sand pit is when they dig a little.
They will go to it in the heat of the day.
I built mine against a brick wall and made a nice cover for shade.
I love my dogs.

I find having a doggy door and letting the dog come inside during the day if it wants to is really nice too. Not only that, it dissuades burglars much better than ADT could ever dream of doing.

Your gonna leave a great Dane and a cattle dog in the house with 4 cats
When you go to work.
Plus there is no over the counter chew toy that can last over 2 hours with the cattle dog.
Her chew toys are one foot long ,2 or 3 inch diameter mesquite logs.

So...what happens when they dig just slightly under the edge of the wall and it falls in on them? When you say "secure" I hope you mean pour a big concrete footing with rebar stubbed up vertically thru the block and then fill the block cells with concrete/mortar. Otherwise, as someone else suggested, your dogs will end up assisting you in digging their graves.

Just get a big chain link kennel, wrap it with shade cloth and get some misters. My pit and Australian Shepard mut are happy with a/c though. I don't get the point of "outside" dogs if they're not on acreage..but that's just me

I just read your reply and I'm like lost for words.
Your not building a 10 foot wall your dogs are juming over.to get to the pit.
Just bury 8x16 blocks about half deep ,use concrete stakes to hold them in place.
Put the stakes inside the holes of block ,pound level with top of brick.
All your doing is trying to contain the sand so it don't spread all over. Duh.
Please don't make me have to take a picture ,so your brain can comprehend the task at hand.

Greatdanes on average live about 7 ,8 ,9 years .
He was 11 years old when he passed away 4 months ago.
He spent everyday of his life in the back yard.
My cattle dog is 7 years old and has also lived in the backyard her whole life.
My wife has worked at a vet clinic for 28 years.please tell us what were doing wrong.

Our dogs are in the house if we are home but when we leave we put them outside at the new house. But, got them a climate controlled fully insulated dog house for them for bad weather
