Once again this year Payson, AZ has been chosen as the host town for a FLW bass fishing tournament. This coming September 22-25th, the National Guard Western Series will return to Roosevelt Lake. This tournament will be the last opportunity for anglers to qualify for the Forrest Wood Cup Tournament. Our volunteer committee has been meeting for about a month and we are planning lots of activities. Our goal for this tournament “is for the FLW to have the best Series event they have ever experienced”. We learned a lot from the Stren event held last year and we’re using those lessons in planning for the Series tournament. Here are few items we’re working, but understand we are still early in the planning phase and things can (will) change.

We are planning an “FLW Day In Payson” on Saturday, Sept. 18th. This is the day before the first pre-fish day. The event will be held at Green Valley Lake here in Payson. Activities will start around 10 AM and go until 8 PM. We’re planning a family free fishing day at Green Valley Urban Lake, a fun zone, fishing demonstrations throughout the day with fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, food, etc. vendor booths. We plan to have the National Guard Bass Fishing Team as well as other top anglers on hand for a “media session” which can be seen live and will be broadcast throughout the park. In addition, we are planning one on one interviews and autographs with anglers. In the evening, a band will perform in the amphitheater and there is a dance area, so bring your family and a blanket for a great time in the "cool" rim country of Payson (sorry, I couldn't resist!).

Our volunteer committee is made up of Payson and Tonto Basin business owners as well as the AZGFD, TNF, GCSO, Payson Police, DPS and others. Planning an event like this involves lots of coordination and with the economy, we’ll need to work smarter and cheaper to get everything done. Up front, we need to acknowledge the Town of Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Dept., the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino, our local Wal-Mart and anonymous business owners and friends for their support and funding to make this event possible. The pre-tournament meeting will again be held at the Casino on Tuesday, Sept. 21 and the final day weigh-in will be at the Payson Wal-Mart. We expect to take up over half of the Wal-Mart parking lot on the final day with all of the booths, fun zone, FLW stage, band, etc. we are planning. If you would like information on hotels, restaurants, activities, etc. in the area visit www.paysonrimcountry.com or www.777play.com . The boat limit for an FLW Series tournament is 150 which we expect to fill. Entry fee for a pro angler is $2,000 and for a co-angler is $350. Remember that you only need a small deposit to reserve your place for the tournament.

I’ll post more news as we get further into the planning but feel free to PM me if you have questions or need more information.

Delw - Thanks agian for letting us use your forum to get the word out!
