I had no idea that we tried stocking salmon in Upper Lake Mary back in the 60's and 70's.

Summer kings? Well, if it's slow for you, go upriver almost to the Scottsburg bridge. Watch the rocks. When the tide is out, that river gets REALLY shallow from the Scottsburg bridge for about a mile below that. It's doable but just be very careful.
So start throwing some plastics for smallmouth. That river at that point is nothing but rocks. Deep, shallow, it doesn't matter. I have caught 50 in a day just with a yellow rooster tail.
I fished that river for years and when the water is warm, you should catch 50 or more smallmouth per guy. It's an incredible smallmouth bass river. Best in the west from what I understand.
Never, EVER once have I even come close to being skunked on that river. The lowest count I've ever had was 47 fish with two guys.
It gets a little windy in the afternoon though. Take a heavy jacket and some rain gear. August is usually the only good weather month up there but it still rains a lot and with the cold wind blowing, it just cuts right through. You get cold to the bone.
Stop by the bait shop on Hwy 138 in Reedsport. They will take care of you.

We have a guide for two days and it is a free trip for me so I think we will do well. They have been killing the kings in late August and the guide specializes in the run. It is probably an early fall run but they say the fish eat more like a springer. I will let you know how it turns out.

Yeah, the don't go more than 3 or 4 years. I used to catch the crap out of them on Lake O'dell in the central Cascade mtns.
It was really interesting watching them go up the small streams to the lake. Zillions of them in a creek no wider than about 3 feet and maybe a foot deep.

Funny thing about the Silvers in Canyon back in the day.No one seemed to be catching them,or if they did they thought the where trout.Game and Fish pretty much pretty much gave up on what the hell happened to them. Then one day after some heavy rains, the the fish no one could find, started their spawning run.Up First Water and up into the Superstitions! They said that some of the hikers up there were catching them by hand.
