Went solo, it was a beautiful night. Met up with other zoners on the water. I stayed were I was, 25 yards from eo's boat. Me on the west side of the channel and him on the east side. At the same depth He was catching fish, and getting bites. I wasn't. In the past, I have caught fish near to where he was, I had also caught fish near to where I was. I really wanted to see if position was that important. The water was calm all night. He had shad around his lights and so did I. In the morning I was hoping to see some boils. But nothing.
Eo continued to catch fish after sun up. I went over to his side, about 20 yards south of him. I started getting bites and catching fish. The spot that I was on, catching fish was close, 10-15 yards, to where I had caught fish in the past. Also within 10 yards of where I have seen the Hook-up boat. Eo has a theory of why the stripers are there on that spot, they are chasing shad up into the shallows. The channel up into the cove is for the most part flat, getting shallower as one goes up into the cove. One side of the channel is steep and one side more gently sloped. The gently sloped side has the fish now. So if I went up into the cove to more shallows I should catch more fish. That is not my experience. I have also spent time going over that spot to see what makes it unique. There are lots of hills and shallows in the whole east side of the cove. Just something for me to ponder instead of the economy and politics. If I had been with someone else I wouldn't have fished all night in that spot cause I always want to get my guests on fish. Was a very pleasant night. |

He's doing okay I guess. I talk to him from time to time. He did not have time to get out this weekend with me unfortunately. Going to try and get him out to Alamo yet this season for some crappie.

We caught a few overnight and then several more in the morning. Biggest was 6ish. Kept another 1/2 dozen or so taco size not shown and tossed back about a dozen dinks.

We tied up to the tires Friday night and fished motorless. Caught 4 in about 5 hours....but they were 1.5-5 lbs. No dinks which was nice. We had a brief storm come thru and after the storm the bite shut off. Still a fun few hours.
Tried to get Tom to come out with us but he couldn't. |

We had good quality...just not the quantity. We had minnows and some shad in our light but there wasn't a ton of shad..very few in fact...and no real school of stripers. We just had a few down deep that were eating.

The fish were definitely there until that storm pushed in and killed the bite I think we'd have had another half dozen or so if it didn't push thru.

Can your girl friend come too. We might need protection while out on the lake.
I will keep that offer in mind. And give you a PM sometime. Here is what happens. I have people that always tell me they want to go. On Monday I check the wind reports for Sat. So I will ask someone on Monday or Tues if they want to go. They say yes, or I will get back to you. About Wed or Thurs but sometimes not till Fri or Saturday they cancel. Then I get on here, and ask if anyone wants to go because I know the weather looks good. The good side is I have had nothing but good experiences from the dozen or so guys that I have met on the zone. Sometimes it was first time boaters, and fisherman eager to learn and sometimes guys with more experience than me. |
