This morning around 2 a.m. Central time, it was raining galore. While we were doing sign-ups the fog had rolled in and you could not see 200 yards. We opted to put the take-off in a holding pattern in hopes that the fog lifted. For a while there the fog only seemed to get thicker. Around 8:20 a.m. we were able to see across the lake and up river so after playing the National Anthem, Dave Seaburg called out the first of 54 boats. We pushed back the weigh in from 3 to 4 p.m. Most of the anglers said the morning bite was very tough but come afternoon they were able to start getting them.

140 bass were caught and released alive with the average big bass weighing 2.23#.

Congradulations to Chris Pennington & Tim Wilsterman for bringing in the biggest limit of the tournament and the third big bass. Chris said that it was all about Tim today but he was good with the final results.
The results of the event are listed below and the results can also be viewed on our website along with the most current year to date standings.

Total number of teams54
Total "all in" $295
Total cash payback $13,085
thanks to Skeeter Boats, Yamaha Motors, RIVER MARINE in Yuma and Sawyer Cook & Co.

One more thanks.....Carl and Sue Mack surprised Mike and I with custom stickers for National Bass West that they created at their store. (MACK DESIGNS in Havasu). We are going to receive a lot more in two weeks so that we can pass them out to those of you that are interested. Their generousity is over the top and we are thankful. Please look for their link soon on our sponsor page of our website.

We are going to have our next Havasu tournament on February 7th. Come join in on the fun.

Best wishes to all

Hey...I go to Valley Center all the time, my inlaws live there. I've fished Hodges & Dixon with limited sucess. I want to try Wolford sometime also. You guys know of any other good spots around there? I don't usually bring my boat since you can/have to rent their fishing boats. Maybe I'll see you over there sometime!

fishing near Valley Center

Valley Center surely is a bit of paradise. With the country feel, and beauty of all of the openness it is all that you could hope for with the “city” only 15 minutes “down the grade”.

Lake Wolford is a lake right there in Valley Center. My husband Mike caught a 14.2# bass out of there and a few of our boys caught bass over 10+.

Lower Otay Lakes is located just 1 hour south of Valley Center. This time of year there is great fishing down there. In fact yesterday at a Won Bass San Diego Region event, Mike Long caught a bass weighing 13+ pounds. Mike is most definitely of the kings of big bass fishing.

Just 1 hour north is Diamond Valley Lake. Recently Diamond Valley closed the launch ramp due to lack of water. This lake was always a “go to” lake for big bass and great fishing for all. There is still shore fishing available for trout and bass. (on a side note, we are praying hard for a monsoon directly over this lake since they do not get run off other than their own so that they can open again for night fishing.)

Just 45 minutes south-east there is Lake Cuyamaca. Fishing is good there in May and June for bed fishing.

Vail Lake is located 45 minutes north/east. Vail Lake is a private lake with awesome fishing. National Bass West is going to run two “open” tournaments at Vail Lake for them this year. The first one is the first Saturday after Memorial Day and the second is the first Saturday after Labor Day. At both events Vail Lake is going to give away a free membership to their lake (a $2,100 value). We are just working out the payout schedule right now and then we will be making the announcements on the particulars. Please check our website www.nationalbasswest.com in the next several weeks for the announcements regarding these events (and also the Wounded Warrior event on May 30th)

Like you mentioned Lake Hodges is just down the hill about 20 minutes. Lake Hodges used to be the best in San Diego. Recently with the rains there was a HUGE fish kill from the acid in the trees. We are hopeful that the bass will rebound and quick like.

Hope this is helpful information for you.
