1996 Evinrude Vindicator 225HP

Anyone know anything about this engine. I know Evinrude had a problem in 99 or 2000 with the Ficht engine, I even heard that the Ficht is what caused most of their financial problems. I had a 1994 Evinrude 200 and for the life of me can't remember which model it was but it didn't say Vindicator on it as I remember. Any advice on the engine would be appreciated. Thanks Pat

great motor,
the fitch was junk and a completely redesigned motor, it came after the one mentioned about

good motor, lot's of power but not easy on gas.
Thanks for the input. I'm going to make a decision on it in the next 24 hours and then someone is going to get my 94 Champ 18 and it's a nice ride.
Ran a 225 94 Vindicator for about seven years before she exploded. I was the second owner and I had added some HP goodies like Hot Heads. It was very strong indeed and very reliable for me.

I only ran AMSOIL in mine.
thanks doc
Very good motor.
Dr.6,

Tell me why you selected Amsoil, I have the same engine and would like to hear your comments.

Thanks,

At the time the AMSOIL was the shit. That motor was started on AMSOIL so I decided to look into it to make sure I was going to keep it that way. I found a bunch of guys running 280's to the tune of 8k rpm's and it was all they would use. I spoke with a couple on the phone and decided to keep it there. My old 250XB only had AMSOIL ran through it as well and it never had a hiccup and I ran that to the limiter everytime it hit the water. This 300X that I have was born on Pennzoil 100% synthetic so I started looking into it. Paul Nichols informed me that he has ran that oil in his small block high rpm's 8K and above with the best success so far. So I started using that oil instead. THe great thing about that is you can get the 100% syn pennzoil 2 stroke at wall mart. I like it so far.

My cars still only get AMSOIL
