It turns out my boatmate wants to go to Canyon instead of Bartlett on Saturday morning to throw swimbaits and jig some spoons. What are some favorite general areas to do one or the other at Canyon?

(Don't be too specific - no secrets please! )

Also, I've never fished up above Beer Can point. Any good fishing up there?

First boat ramp pull off to the side and chuck swimbaits across the ramp, cliffs along side of the marina and both banks under the second bridge. 2nd boat ramp area if you are standing on the 2nd ramp facing out throw swimbaits into the bouy area and along the far bank. also go up the little arm and throw them in there the trout will stack up in the back of that arm watch your graph closely as you are going up you will see the bottom rise up real fast like a cliff face STOP go back and throw swimbaits up the arm and bring them back out over deepwater they will jump on it as it crosses the ridge. Spoons you will be better if you just cruise the cliffs and staying about 20ft out from them toss the spoons towards the face and let them flutter down and watch the line. Upriver is a great place to throw traps and jerkbaits and inline spinners for smallies. Jigs will work wonders up there also along the right side about 1 mile up from beercan. GOOD LUCK

Thanks!

Thanks gcbaitman! I can't wait to give it a shot. :D

By the way, does anyone else admit to getting flat worn out after a couple hours of throwing that big rock (a.k.a. rainbow swimbait) 40 feet out 500 times? :x

I am going to invent a swiwbait slingshot, or maybe jerry rig a trap thrower.

Yep none of those things work cause everybody does it lol.
Franklin we both know he is going to wuss out after throwing that bait about 20 times and he will switch over to a kastmaster or something. j/k I like to throw a reaction bait TILL I see a trout leaping THEN I start throwing the big baits.

gmbaitman, nice post. I really haven't figured out Canyon much yet so there is not much I can recommend. I will say that throwing those swim baits will put hair on your chest. I'll only make about 20 casts with them, then will put them down and throw something lighter to throw. Anyway, thanks for your post.

TroutBait

The first time I tied a trout bait on....I have to admit it seemed a little strange....my son thought I had either gone crazy or was trying to be funny....he made fun of me all the way up until the second cast. I was at saguaro and positioned the boat about 15 yards from shore and threw that monster at the bank and off of a point. I let it hit the bottom and when I gave it a twitch I thought I snaged a boulder....it turned out to be a 7 1/2 pound largemouth......well I would like to say that I have caught more fish with it but the truth is that is the only one I ever caught....and I have thrown it a lot since then....but my son does not make fun of me anymore when I tie one on.
