Commission Will Consider 2004 Regulations on Oct. 18
PHOENIX – The Arizona Game and Fish Commission will consider draft 2004 regulations for fish, raptors, amphibians, crustaceans and mollusks, and reptiles starting at 8 a.m. Oct. 18 in the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 2 at 12851 N. 19th Ave., Phoenix.

The commission will establish open seasons, open areas, and bag and possession limits during its meeting.

The department Fisheries Branch will provide an overview of accomplishments during 2002 and 2003 and will be a briefing on a possible biennial Commission Order 40 (fish) process.

This is the meeting where the commission decides which non-profit organizations receive special big game tags for mule deer, white-tailed deer, antelope, elk, turkey, javelina, bighorn sheep, buffalo and black bear. Through fund-raising efforts associated with the tags, non-profit organizations have raised $9.3 million for wildlife during the past nine years.

Another agenda item relates to the decommissioning of the Child’s-Irving Power Plant and proposed restoration of Fossil Creek to promote native fish conservation. The commission is being asked to authorize the department to take a “flexible and comprehensive” approach to Fossil Creek restoration.
