Whick model are you looking at? The 1500 is comparable in size to a CU200 and the 1000 is similar to a 100. I have been thinking of getting a CU101 or scorpion 1001 to throw lighter baits with. Both reels are "super-free". The big advantage to me is the external/dual cast control. The big disadvantage would be getting parts if needed. There are a lot of discussions over at
http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/ in the rods&reels discussion.

Scorpion 1000

Jason, I have 5 or 6 of them if that tells you anything. I love 'em. I also have 2 of the curado 100's and I've had problems with both. The curado 100's I have are not super free, so maybe they've improved it since I bought.

The previus post makes a good point about parts, but I had found a source and a service shop that was willing to work on Scorpions. Check out www.profishing.net for the best prices I was able to find.

I also use the Shimano Biomaster spinning reels. They are basically a shallow spooled stradic with magnesium frame. Super smooth and light.

Good luck and let us know what you get.

Absolutely the smoothest, farthest casting baitcasting reel I've ever used. You won't regret it, and I never had a problem with mine.

Hey Jason
I have 1 501 scorpion & also have a curado 201 both SF i like the scorpion better. I'm going to order a scorpion quickcast which is the same as a Casatic. Parts were my biggest draw back but not now. I dont know if you can throw a left hand retrive but your welcome to try mine at the bassoff if you would like. I think you will like them.
