Fished Arivaca this morning and early afternoon. Fishing was slow (for there). We ended up with about 9 (+1 goon) in the boat. Two fish at about 2 lbs, the rest were around 1. One fish caught on a Pop-R, the rest were ALL caught on Sneko’s. A lot of sunfish were hitting our baits - ended up catching a tiny Green Sunfish on a Senko. They should call them large mouthed sunfish… The water was stained and there was a lot of floating vegetation and other debris on the water. The end near the dam had a thick layer of scum on it.

I was down there a week ago sunday. I only flyfish down there but there were a few guys in a boat and it looked like they were throwing white bass assassins and they were hauling ass with the baits. They caught the crap out of them. I caught about 10 all on deer hair poppers and hoppers. Then I busted my 3 wt, and I had to fish with a 5'9" flyrod, that was a challenge. Fish busting all over the place chasing dragonflies and damsels. Has the lake come up some more? It should be about full with all the rain they have had down there.

drifli,
The lake was full. Water up to and slowly going over the spill way. We would see fish breaking the surface every once in a while. No topwater baits we threw were working. I thought about throwing a white super fluke out there but never tried. Thanks for the info.

Maybe that is what those guys were throwing. I haven't fished for bass with bass gear in a long time. It looked like a big, white minnow type soft plastic. They were working it really fast. Do you go down there very often? I try to get down there every 2 weeks or so for the afternoon bite. Hope to bump into down there. I have a greenish trout traps float tube. See ya. Paul

I've been down there 3 times this year. I'd like to go more often, but I like heading North to Saguaro to fish with my friends too. I'd also like to fish Pena Blanca more often. Right now, most of my Southern AZ trips are for the Baja Tackle tourneys. When I have time to fish, other than those tourneys, I've been heading to Sag. Sunday, I was thinking about fishing Arivaca until noon or so and then heading down to Pena Blanca for the evening bite - I'm glad I didn't. I didn't get any sleep Saturday night and I was dragging all day Sunday... I try to get out 2 or 3 times a month, maybe we'll C'ya down there sometime. Good luck & be safe!
