Boatcop I have just been informed that friends of my wifes will be coming from PA over thanksgiving and they want to rent quads and go camping so I am thinking of going to Bartlett so I can take the boat and disappear ..er.. I mean ..show them the lake yeah thats it, anyway can you reccomend an area close to the water that we can pitch some tents(without sleeping on rocks) that I can beach the boat and or launch from shoreline? And would we have to trailer the Quads in and out of there to where we want to ride? Also where are the Boatrookie of week posts?

Boatcop- I had asked you if I could hunt for quail at Sag, but I forgot to ask where a good place would be to go where I could dock my boat and get out and hunt. I am going to go out this Saturday at about 7 am with my brother. Any help would be great. Thanks.

There is really nowhere to "dock" your boat except Bagley flats but you can beach it in one of the cove across from there and walk up the washes and ridges, I used to hunt there alot and there were Quail all over the place.I still see and hear them while fishing.

I looked at the topo of Sag on Del-Mart and saw 3 little coves across from Bagley Flats, now this might be a dumb question but are those the coves you are refering to? Also which one is the best to dock at? I know there can sometimes be a bunch of weeds and crap around there. Any help would be great. Thanks for the help.

Those are the coves I am talking about, how big and what kind of boat are you in? they have a pretty gradual slope up to the beach so they are shallow and Probably weedy. you could also anchor a few feet off shore and wade in. I have beached my boat in all of them at one time or another. you could probably find quail anywhere you decide to go out there. we used to just walk the ridge lines and scare them up. we have also run into some really big javelina and the occasional deer.

Fishwrestler,
you can hunt anywhere on sag. as long as your a 1/4 mile away from and occupied structure.

I would hunt bartlet before sag. more quail and easier to beach boat.

If you want to camp, Bartlett flats is the place to be. as for the Quads, you have to be out of the recreation area to use them. the recreation area ends about where the no wake buoys begin in the river end. basicly, if you quad in the hills you are ok. you cannot use them in the camping area or on the beach. as for the hunting thing, just find a beach to ground your boat and go for it. When i am fishing in the eves, i listen for the birds to call to give me an idea on where to go for a morning hunt.
