Breaking in a new beagle to fishing!!

If any of you have seen me on the lake, You have always seen that I had my beagle, Baxter with me. Earlier this summer I adopted a female, (Sally) and she was one wild child. She grew up in their back yard and was never trained for anything. She is finally coming around and has been behaving very well so I am going to reward her with a fishing trip tonight. Sounds a bit wierd, but I am a bit excited about the whole thing. I am sure that Baxter, the old salt, will just sit there and supervise like he always does. I have no clue how she's going to react as she's never been in a boat before. She will be wearing a life jacket.

sounds like fun. i can't wait to take my new pup fishing. she ought to do well, as of yesterday her new favorite game is to drag an old anchor around the yard by the rope. i think she's trying to tell me something.
I didn't know it was leagl to use Beagles for fishing. How much weight to you have to use to get them down to the fish? I may have to give my Healer a try at it.

Best of luck Spidey......let us know how it goes!

We got our Beagle last December. She's just about a year and a half old. We are still working with her and waiting for her to settle down. She has been in the boat twice and loved it. The only way she will get in the water is if she falls in......she hates water. She has been in the pool so we know she can hold her own in the water. Doesn't like the wind either, she hides under the console at my feet when cruising. But once we stop and fish....she has her nose in everything! I had designs on her being there in the boat all the time....but she gets car sick so it's quite the ordeal taking her in the car. But we'll keep trying.....she'll get used to it.
I've got a Dauschand that likes to Kayak, at first he was afraid now he stands at the bow like Napolean smelling the air. One of these days I want to bring him with on Pleasant just to see how he does in a full size boat.
Have fun Spidey!! Sally will be fine. Baxter will show her the ropes!

I'm with you . What size hook do you use when fishing with a beagle?
Any of you have a problem with your dogs getting accidently hooked? That is a concern for me having several rods on the deck and CB, JB and every other type lure with a treble hook and with the dog walking around.
I have two black Labs, one is crazy hyper and the other is laid back ala Chevy Chase's "Funny Farm" dog.
I have to keep my rods put away lest the crazy one stomps all over them. "Now where the heck did that Blue cat go?"

Cool picture. I have a friend with a lab that likes to fetch rocks when we would go to the lake, the dam thing would even dive for them when you threw them into the lake
I spent alot of years running beagles and huntin cottontails in Michigan. I had four and often I'd leave my gun at home. Loved to let em run and sing. I could tell each one by his howl and knew exactly what they were doing and where they were at. Neat little critters for sure.
