What do you look for when deciding to throw a buzz bait? Is this a bait you take out and fish with or only toss in certain instances? Also, do you consider the time of day and/or the time of year to be important? I haven’t used buzz baits much and I’m trying to develop some “skills” with them. Thanks…Ray

Thats a good question.

I hardley ever threw a buzzbait or spinner bait at Lake Pleasant, But always watched guys weigh in some nice fish using them, a year and a half ago I decided thats all I was going to throw for 3 week straight( when I was fishing almost every day). It was in the summer when I started(westy kept telling me about spinner baits) and after about 9-10 days I started catching fish on them. Then after a while I wa catching lots of nice 2lbers on them with an occassional 5-6, so I got hooked (ask Sir DonutMan) thats all I threw for damn near a year.

I look for big rounded rocks with those cocaburrs in them or a little brush(not big bushes), that or big mud flats when the lake is drawing down. I always have one tied on now and use them alot. they work all year as well.

The buzz baits I have had the best luck with in open water 10-40 feet deep off of points and sometimes in coves. I like the clacker ones , the louded the better. I have one here that has a 3" blade on it and Ive caught some real nice fish.

When fishing a buzz bait have your partner throw behind you with a spinner bait, someone told me that and it seems to work pretty well.

when the water has a little breeze I have had my best luck with both.

A black buzz-bait is my go-to bait at night, especially on calm nights, with no wind, seems to work when fish are more active...

buzzbaits

I have found buzzbaits to be a hit or miss proposition. I got a call from my dad at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. He fished for 3 hours throwing everything but the kitchen sink. No fish. He decided to tie on a buzzbait and caught 6 nice fish in the next 45 minutes. Go figure. Nothing on spinnerbaits, cranks, worms or drop-shot...then, WHAMMO....buzzbait is the coolest bite there is next to a spook or a rico bite. Good Luck. Buzz on.

Buzzbaits and draggonflies

I love to throw buzzbaits in fall, starting in September, in backs of coves. The draggonflies are dropping their eggs in the shallow water. It sould be a good bit at Alamo and Roosevelt and Bartlett this fall.

I've tried the backs of coves at Pleasent with little success. Not to say I'm and expert on that lake. Listen to what Delw says about that lake.

I can't seem to find the buzzbait I like. I require a preimum hook. I would love to find a squeeker, a clacker and a tripple blade with good hooks.

I'm going to have to find some of those "clackers" and "squeekers" and give them a try. I have some one and two blade buzz baits ...of course they're Willy Wacker's! I used some two weekends ago but I didn't throw them much. Also, I had two short strikes, so I added trailer hooks to all of my buzz baits, I hear short strikes are a fairly common with those.

Thanks for the info and help guys. If I ever change my name, you'll know they worked!

Clackers

I like the clackers that have the little exta peice of metal that the blade strikes as opposed to the ones that make noise by the blade hitting the lead head. Why? I don't know.

I like 3 blades because you can make the go slooooooow.

I will be using buzzers at Apache in Sept and Havasu in October.

I have not tried the Yamamoto offering.
