I drained my starting battery trying to start motor in the cold morning. Any tips on cold starting. I know my choke is working I can hear it and can smell the gas after a while. Also does it help to keep the motor vertical? Thanks

Have you used the motor recently? I have an 87 2oohp merc and it starts fairly easily even in the cold weather.maybe you need a new battery?
