Crappie at Apache

Apache Lake is not know for it's crappie but there are some in there. The most popular areas I know of are in Long Canyon ( down by the dam), north of Turtle Island (in the main boday), and in the river (above Burnt Corral). Thay could be awful tough to find this time of year. Good hunting...Art

The only Crappie I've ever caught out of Apache were on beds. The first one I caught looked like a 4 pound bass in the water, but after finally coaxing it into biting, it turned out to be a huge Crappie, probably around 3 pounds!

I've also seen them bed in WaterDog cove. In fact, I once seen a group of about 10 of them bed together.

If you can catch them this time of year, you are the Crappie king!!

The biggest crappie I have ever seen came out of Apache. I've never caught them there myself, but I ran into a guy that had 1/2 dozen of them all about 2.5 to 3lbs... He was fishing around the marina area.

I'd take Joe's idea an fish the boat slips in the marina, years ago when water dog was active you could sit on the boat docks and catch all the crappie you wanted with live minnows.
