Delta snaggproof

Just got back from fishing the Snag Proof Frog Tourney. What a cluster phuck that was for me. I have fished this event for the past 5 or 6 years and it is a ton of fun. Seeing that I am from there I get pretty competitive about it, I really want to win this thing. I head out Wednesday and fish Thurs/Fri. The frog bite was very tough and someone got into my partner's head about how it would be great to have a punch bite. Second day of pre-fish and I hear punch again and I tell him what phuckin difference does it make we have to fish with frogs. He settles in after that.

Day one game plan: Short event(6hrs) bad part of the tide for our area so we decide just try to stay in touch with the top 25% of the field(209 boats) Wake in the morning and there is a flat on the trailer so we do a quick change. I go into the house to grab my wallet and when I get out my partner is rolled up like a pretzel saying his back just went out. OH SHIT!!!! Stretch him out and give him the suck it up speech and we hit the road.

First spot he can't release his troller and can't get a rod off the deck. SO I act as a caddy but his mind won't give up the front of the boat, uh oh. Frog blows up he sets the hook and swings the fish in and goes to his knees. That was the breaking point. He had two other blow ups but didn't have the speed to set and they didn't stick. Due to tide and brevity of the event this was our main spot. We ended up with 6 blow ups and only 3 to the boat and one wouldn't measure. The remainder of that day was bad. We ran to a few other spots but the boat traffice was killing my buddy. Go to the weigh in and first place has a 10# kicker(of course). Weigh in the fish and lo and behold we are in 50place with only 2 fish.

I sent him home with meds and instructions and told him we will make up ground in the am as we had some spots that had major fish in the AM. I call him at 3:30 to see how he is doing and he said he still hasn't slept and he has numbness and tingling going down his leg.

You all know I am a back doc. So I suck it up and tell him as a patient I always tell them with this type of pain not to get into a boat(no shocks) and as a friend I can't let you do this, and as a competitor I want to kick your ass and make you do it. With that being said I told him to go back to bed and I was going to head home to AZ.

So another year and hopefully I can get one of you guys to go out there with me. Him and I have been tourney partners for so long that I might kill him next event.

Tons of fun though and nothing better than pitching a frog on a sunken house, house boat, tractor, dead pig...and getting blown up on.

I have the place to stay right on the river. Pull the boat up plug in and chill.
There were no freebies on this trip. If you didn't pitch that lil froggy in the smallest of pockets that had shade well then they didn't touch it, even if you missed it by a few inches. But when you got it right in there it was a plop bite. Look forward to doing it again next year. Lots of people came up from SoCal and there was a few frog seminars from the great Bobby Barrick and I launched with Dee Thomas and got a ride to the truck from Ishama.
