I posted on FB a while back that just ONE TIME I wanted to hear a politician or celebrity not back off from a comment they made......looks like it may be happening. Good for you, Phil.

It's called freedom of speech.. He should be able to say anything he wants.. I think they could care less what happens as they already have plenty of money..

#8 ·
It's called you don't know wtf freedom of speech is... Is anyone saying we should prosecute him criminally or civilly for his speech? No one is taking away his freedom of speech when they are simply criticizing what he said.

Freedom of speech does not equal freedom from social repercussions or freedom from public backfire.

Stop spewing please.

Yo re-rangered, looks like Megyn Kelly isn't backing off her comment about Santa being white... Good for you, Megyn Kelly!:moon: :bong::bong:

Boo ****in Hoo

who really cares what the **** think or for that matter anyone else who has there feelings hurt.

The next group to start bitching is the fraternal order of fire chiefs. as Phil is against bestiality say it isn't so.. fire chiefs of mesa will be very upset.

that's the only clean show on tv, I don't get into the church shit and they don't push it in your face and I like that.

Besides who the **** cares what they do or say off the show.

The best part of the show is when they all sit at the end for the family dinner
That's what everyone should do. My kids don't like eating watching tv anymore since that show came out and they get pissed if I don't make it home for dinner which used to be 90% of the time, due to work. now I am there at least 4-6 times a week and if I am late they will wait up to make sure we all have dinner together.

That's fantastic your kids have already learned how important that is. Amazing how the "family meal" has almost become extinct. Even if people do eat together these days they usually have an electronic device in front of them. Growing up we had dinner together as a family every night. I wasn't allowed to answer the phone if it rang, much less watch TV.

I agree with every single word Phil Robertson said. BTW, he didn't soften up or retract in the latter part of that article vs. the beginning as the article states he did.
The 56% of Louisianan's agreeing with gay marriage sounds bunk to me.
Love the sinner, hate the sin.
It's refreshing to see such individuals not back down to their core beliefs. America could use a dose of that.
Whoever stated the DD guys started the long beard trend needs to get out more.
The biggest thing I miss about being back there are the people. People are real.

Here's another http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/duck-dynastys-phil-robertson-indefinite-666808 Are his truthful comments more detrimental to society than the norm we have shoved down our throats on TV?

Looks like A&E has suspended Phil from the show.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/12/18/duck-dynasty-robertson-phil/

A&E broke its silence on Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments late Wednesday.

The cable network announced Robertson is off the hit show for the time being.

The network issued the following statement to EW: “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
An A&E spokesperson confirmed this statement means exactly what it says: Robertson is off the show for an as-yet-undetermined period of time. The rest of his family will continue on the reality series.

**** A&E
They contradicted themselves by saying this
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. "
and then canning him.
so it wasn't on the show but they still canned him....

I have a feeling this is going to start a big stink with a lot more people on the NON gay side than they planned. Not just the religious right( those people are just as wacked as the ****) but people who don't care about gay this or gay that and what someone says. ie the biggest population (normal people)
Better yet I hope it starts a massive civil war :Iconrotfl :Iconrotfl :Iconrotfl

From what I've seen, its caused quite an uproar in the strait community

#21 ·
I think its actually one of the few shows that isn't fake. I'm sure there's a few things added here and there though.

#22 ·
I think the interview was true but planted/planned. Things got to hollywood for ol' Phil and maybe a few other family members. They are sick of the crazy train and are probably getting worked over by all the marketing and BS. So they decided to bail out and they did it by planting an uncorked interview with Phil. Things will calm down or heat up....either way they will renegotiate a better deal thats more in the Robertson favor$$$. Time will tell. I like the show though and hope they keep it up. Season one was the best they need to stick with that lay out of outdoor tomfoolery and killing things.

Reagardless of your opinion about gay rights, homosexuality, whether its natural, normal, should be accept openly, or should be kept behind closed doors, or whatever...

Phil exercised his right to free speech. He was suspended for it by a Disney Corp. Disney is one of the most in your face PC brainwashing organizations in public media. Remember the movie Cars? It was 2 hours of brainwashing that "sure gasahol was a horrible and damaging idea, but some how its the big oil companies fault."

In some of the chat groups its been argued that Phil's right to free speech has not been infringed. "It was his right to say it, and it was his employers right to fire him. Free speech doesn't come without repercussions!" I read that and thought it sure sounded like an infringement of free speech.

Then I read the reply. "So if I worked for a more conservative company and I made openly pro gay comments would it also be my employers right to fire me, or is true free speech only reserved to the current PC group?"

Obviously in today's PC environent his comments were inflammatory, but it was not illegal. By his standards they were not immoral. He didn't incite persecusion. Why should his right to free speech be legally allowed to be countered by anything more than free speech of a countering point of view?

Well said, I totally agree.!!! :)

you misunderstand the Constitution if you think there is a "free speech" issue here.

it is the Government who cannot infringe upon one's right to free speech.

nothing to do with employees of a private company

Phil signed a contract with Disney....I'm sure there are clauses in the contract regarding making comments or performing actions that can hurt the "brand"

do you really want the government to intervene and tell a private company they can't suspend one of their own employees?

#35 ·
I think Bando nailed it this guy probably signed a contract that binds him to certain guidelines. My opinion, if you ask a question of someone, you may not like the answer. Dont have clue about this show or this Phil guy.

Didn't one government entity in Colorado go after a privately owned bakery for refusing to bake a cake for a gay wedding? I don't remember all the details, but it sure seems to me that the government loves to get involved to back gays, and minorities, but god forbid anyone says anything against them. then the govt jumps in.

Bottom line is private business should be able to do what they want. However they cant. I hate it but you just cant say things about certain groups anymore.

The world would be a better place if people kept their freaking sex lives, and their religion to themselves.

First let me say I enjoy watching DD from time to time and Phil is definitely my favorite. I also respect his family values and agree with everything he said.

However, His right to free speech is with our US government, not his employer. I have fired people who work for me for saying the wrong thing. Disney has the same right.

If you worked at Subway and spent all your time talking about how great Quiznos is, I am sure Subway would send you packing. Same thing here. Disney believes Phil's comments will cost them money, so Phil gets shut down by his employer.

When you break it down to the crux, it all revolves around money. Disney has share holders to answer to and they don't give a rip about Phils beliefs, they just want a steady dividend payment and an increase in share value.

I too support Phil. But here is what I don't understand. If someone takes the time to read ALL of his comments, he was saying that we need to love others. And anyone that has paid attention to his comments before this GQ article knows that Phil calls himself a sinner. The reason so many people are upset about his comments are because he said homosexuality is a sin. That's the root of the issue. Nobody is upset about his comments about drunkards, adulterers, slanderers, and swindlers. It's because the gay organizations and most gay people are fighting tooth and nail for "equality". So those people should have the freedom to live their life and change the definition of marriage but anybody who expresses an opinion against that lifestyle needs to punished? That's crap. The reason A & E suspended Phil is because they are pandering to the views they think most of the nation has. Now A & E has offended many of the people who watch DD....and I think A & E will start taking some heat for that. I agree with the comments that this is all about money. I'll bet A & E finds a way to get him back on the show after a short suspension. I did have to laugh about his comments on the vagina and the anus. I never thought of it quite like that but I agree with it!!!

#39 ·
I agree with the above for the most part. Phil really has stated the same basic thing The Pope has. He conveyed a message of The Bible. A&E KNOWS they are a Christian Family - that's basically made the show. LGBT community comprises about 2% of this country!

#41 ·
Phils opinion about gay marriage means about as much to me (and most people) as my opinion about the chicken pad tai at Pei Wei means to him. This all boils down to his employer and whoever he signed a contract with and how they feel about it. He has every right in the world to say whatever he wants but that doesn't mean there wont be consequences.

Bando, Theo8675309, Basman1313, etc. all nailed it on the head.

I watched the Barbara Walters special last night. She had the DD Family on and asked a few questions and how they felt about the show. The only one that was missing was Phil. His wife said that it was duck season and that he never misses that, her comment that she could not dye during this time because he would not make to her funeral. At the end Walters said that she was a little miffed that he passed on her show.It was also said that Phil ( The Duck Commander ) estimated worth was over 80 million.

I agree. Kudos to Delw for making the adjustment. My wife pushed for us to do that over the years and I think it made a big difference. Of course there were times when I had to watch that football game or some other lame thing. But I've found that there's always another game to watch....but you can't get back that quality time of eating together as a family. I think the kids really like it and it forces everybody to talk. Imagine that!! In today's world where a kids face is always looking at his or her phone...its refreshing to have a conversation with them about what's happening in their lives.
