If there is not a scratch on them what could be wrong? Guess he should throw away the rods and tackle too?

Something is not right.If the boat has transom tie downs,winch hook and safety chine how did the boat come off the trailer.

I can tell you from experience that it does not matter one bit if you have that thing tied down or not at higher speeds(45+mph). I had everything latched and I had just put a new strap for the front of the boat so I had the two in the back and two in the front and the boat and trailer were 200yds from each other. They stayed together for a while, I felt it, but when they let go...shit goes everywhere. I bet that strap is only rated for 20mph if that. Seatbelts are only less than 40mph

When you have something that heavy change it's course, it doesnt matter how you have it tied down it's going to jolt loose and go bye bye..

That boat will be on E-BAY in a month or two.

My family got in a wreck towing our family boat home from Alamo when I was a teenager. We hit one of the gaurd rails over one of the washes in surprise or sun city or somewhere on the 60.The whole boat flew off the trailer and into our overhead camper and smashed the door on it. Those straps broke like toothpicks. We got lucky becuse we didn't go over the bridge, both passenger tires of the truck and the one trailer tire were all hanging off the bridge.When the wrecker pulled the boat off the truck everyone thought are truck was gonna fall off.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I'm thinkin a few too many beers

I think the tie downs are stronger than the ratchet mechanism anyways. My tie downs looked like streamers on the back of the boat and the front two just snapped.
