How close is too close? if you see someone on a shoreline you want to fish or heading that way, do you floor it and get ahead of them and if so how far? or do you swing in behind them?( D :?: el I already know your answer). Just curious because of some conversations I have had on the lake recently,I personally would swing in behind . If I know the person then I will usually get close enough to talk but if not then I try and stay well back. What are your pet peeves on or lack of fishing etiquette?

Oh, I don't know, but lasooing another fisherman's outboard motor and getting towed around is a great way to save power on your battery! :lol: Maybe if you think your fishing partner is getting kind of warm, it's ok to dump him into the lake to cool him off. Seems like a kind gesture. Although, I feel it's environmentally damaging for the lake when you dump your coffee cups overboard.

This is all just my humble opinion ofcourse! LOL!

Look at it this way, just do what ever you want - either the other fisherman is a friend and they won't care, :? or you'll end up getting in a fight :evil: and the next thing you know, you'll both be best friends and next time it happens, neither one of you will care... 8) :lol:

Seriously though, I don't give a damn as long as someone doesn't park where I'm casting or block me from fishing when it’s obvious I’m fishing there. :shock: :evil: :evil: :evil: It does give you a weird feeling when people come on in and don't say anything to you. :shock: :? I guess I could say hi just as easy. :? I prefer to have someone to chat with anyway. However, I don't want to cut someone off or get too close to them without them saying "come on over". It's hard to figure out what some people feel is ok and what's not ok. I don’t care so much but I don’t want to tick anyone off either. :wink: :!: You can always say, “Sorry! I thought you were someone else.” LOL!

You got a deal! 8) And yes that is a definite overuse. I tend to agree with you,If I know or at least have met the person I enjoy having someone to talk to . if someone pulls up and is friendly I enjoy having met another fisherman . It does kind of irritate me when someone pulls up pretty close and does not even aknowledge that your even there,(not including those that do it to me every monday) but like you said I guess I could say howdy just as well.

etiquette

Most of the time I will find another spot or drop in behind.If I do go ahead it will be atleast 75 yds if possible.Everyone fishes different techniques with the same lures. Often I will catch fish
following that the other boat misses.If not try another spot.

I usually drift up into an area where somebody is fishing and I'll give them wave or say hi. If no response I'll drift back out. if I say hi to d a it's usually louder than normal. If he's catching fish he usually responds with his middle finger gesturing that he caught one. :shock:

I pay attention to how the other guy is fishing. If he's running the shoreline throwing blades or working a flat with cranks he'll be on his trolling motor. I won't stop less than 100 yds in front of him and start fishing. I will get in behind him as well. If he's working a point or the edge of the flat and is mostly stationary, then I'll get off plane well before his area and use the TM to get into a position at least 30 yds away.

OH yeah I love to pull up behind people and catch the fish the missed, especially in tournaments and the people I know personally.
