Arizona resident 2003 fishing licenses are now on sale at half price ($9) for the remaining two months of the year.

“If you haven’t bought a fishing license this year, now is the time. Keep in mind that the various stamps, such as a trout stamp or two-pole stamp, are still full price,” says Arizona Game and Fish Department spokesperson Rory Aikens.

The other good news is that the winter trout stockings are in full swing. The Game and Fish Department is stocking trout at numerous locations, some of which are close to the large metropolitan areas. Canyon Lake is being stocked this week. The lower Salt River and Saguaro Lake are being stocked with feisty rainbows the week of Nov. 9.

Aikens says the high country trout fishing is terrific at many locations. “The great trout bite can keep going until the snow flies and the lakes ice-up.”

In the desert impoundments right now, largemouth bass are often in feeding frenzies to put on fat before winter arrives. In addition, striped bass can often be found boiling at the surface at Powell, Mead, Mohave and Havasu.
