I could be wrong but I think you can change the format you put the coordinates into the GPS. I believe this is your problem.
Google Earth
I have attempted to find various locations using the coordinates on google earth and when I plug them into my gps I am not close to what I am attempting to find. Is there a conversion from google earth to gps or am I missing something?

You are correct, the datum information is adjustable but i don't know what datum information is used by google earth.
Google earth uses WGS84.
