Got a motor question.....

Is 295 hours alot for a boat motor? Motor is a 2004 200HP Evinrude on a 2004 19' Ranger. Owner has apparently serviced the motor regularly and everything checks out fine based on computer printout. I haven't lake tested it yet, but I hope to this next week. Just curious what your concerns might be about a motor with that kind of hours on it. It seems like alot to me, but maybe not.

I appreciate any comments/thoughts you might have.

Thanks

are you lookign at the red one on craigslist?if iso it looks nice,go run it at WOT all the way to the otherside of the lake just to be sure,as for the hours im not sure so ill keep my mouth zipped
Some guys say an average weekend fisherman puts 50-75 hours per year on a motor. 295 for an 04 fits that range pretty well. They used the boat, but those hours aren't too bad. Can't go wrong with a Ranger man...

well said!!everybody i know that owns them loves them
295Hrs for 5 years aint bad at all.
Does it have a smart gage. If so have it checked, Mine will not only tell if it was over reved or overheated; it will also break down the hours by RPMs. ie 75hrs @ 1200 or less, 50 hrs @upto 3500 rpms etc.
You dont need a smart gage in order to have that checked. They hook up a computer to your motor which gives you those details.
Thanks for the replies. No Skeeter Boy this is not the red one on Craigs. Not sure if this one ever was. NuDay I don't know if this boat has a smart gauge, I don't think so, but I'll be sure to find out. Young Gun your breakdown makes sense and I'm pretty sure the owner mostly fished the river down here where a guy could burn up a couple hours per week and easily rack up 100 hours per year.

Everything on the boat, but the tranducer works. The hull, seats, and carpet are in OK shape. Its a sweet looking boat and the 10K price seems like a smokin deal. The price is what got me thinking about the hours on the motor, like high mileage on a vehicle........

Thanks again for everyone's comments.
The best suggestion is to either buy from someone you trust or have a professional inspect the boat and engine before purchasing....10K for a 04 19ft Ranger is just a give away price just dont sound right..I would have that dude inspected for sure.
Sounds like a sweat deal if everything checks out.
Is it a E-TEC?
One of the boys at River Marine told me that some of the first E-TECS would loose the # 6 cylinder (I think). But I dont know what year those were on.

That sounds like an Optimax symptom. Sticking #6. Mercury claims its from running hard without warming up the motor. Etecs are having a few computer issues. Now if it was a ficht...

Which would you prefer, Optimax or E-tec?
I was thinking about the E-tec on my next boat, in about 20 years Lol.
But my father in law is stuck on the Optimax for his next boat.
Is it just really peoples prefrence?
I would look at all the forums, read all the scuttlebutt, weigh my options, and ask a lot of questions... at the time I was geting ready to buy.
