Has anyone had an An upper gastrointestinal (GI) scope done ever? Having it tomorrow, just wondering if you feel like shit afterwards.

Hope this will be all of the testing and back on the lake real soon, it's been too long.

Had it done three years ago. Everything came out OK (lol, you know what I mean). Afterward, I felt pretty good.
Having an endoscopy tomorrow

I had one done several years ago. the worst was the gunk you had to take to empty the intestines YUCK. Other than that I slept through it all.
I did it a few years ago. More nervous going into it than out of it, good excuse to be a lil gassy and get away with it. You'll do fine.
They didn't give me anything to take tonight. Just nothing to eat or drink after midnight. This is only going through my throught and to my stomach, maybe that's why I don't have to take anything.

Thanks for the heads up.
Sounds like the scope they put down your throat, to look at the esophagus, stomach and beyond on the top side. If thats the proceedure, had it done 2 years ago. I was put under and felt fine afterwards other than a little loopy. If you have to drink the barrium and stand in front of the imager so the can watch how it flows through your body, might result in puking your guts out for a bit.
Been through an upper GI several times, I was not scoped I just had the barrium treatment. The Doctor finally got the good picture and found a Schatzki Ring. The treatment for that was worse then drining the barrium, which I had to drink 4 of the 250ml containers. Always drink a LOT of water after putting that tuff down into your stomach.
There are 2 different version. They can numb you up and stick the scope partially down while you are awake and the one where you go under and they go all the way into the stomach and look. I personally spent one morning in there doing the Barium solution in front of the imager, an upper GI where I was numbed and scoped and finally an ultrasound. I didn't have the full scope where they put me under. I felt fine going in and fine coming out. Went straight into work after the tests. I can't speak for going under.
had the upper a fews years back for ulcers, no prob.
I had an upper endectomy about 7 years along with a colonoscopy during the same visit. I was put out for it. Everything was fine when waking up but it takes a litttle while for yourself to normalize after it all.
My father passed away from stomach cancer at 38 years old. This sort of thing can run in families so that was the trigger for me to have one done.
It's not enjoyable but if a Dr. feels it's necessary it could really be a life saver for you. Good luck with it. The procedure is nothing to get overly worried about
Have had two of these over the last 5 years, Never had any issue with them other then a dry throat for a little while once they where done. Not to bad at all.
The worst part is preping. No sh*t!!
AMEN: Jerk-it
My wife just had one done last Thursday. Knocked her out and snaked the camera down her throat. No problem, Then after wards she got home and slept. One of the best days of my marrage.
Piece of cake! Had one done a few years ago. All i remember after i woke was wanting to take all the girls home and drink champagne. What a buzz:cool:
Bob- what's a Schatzki Ring? Was that a ring that old Polish *** wore on his pecker? How'd it get in your throat? Just curious.
Well just got home and still feel a little loopy! So if this post doesn't make much sense, I am still high. It wasn't bad at all. Don't remember much. My wife did say I kept making sure no one stole my boxers. I was out of it. She said I was talking crazy the 30 mins in recovery.

Well they did find a few things. They found a Polyp and removed that from my stomach. They said they would do some testing on it. But didn't think it was going to be a big deal with me being 29 years old. They also found two Lesions and a Hiatal Hernia. They said that will be fixed by surgery. I guess that's what was causing most of the chest pains.

Which I had a heart scare before all this. Failed a EKG and then was sent to a cardiologist. Passed the EKG there, but he heard a click and a murmur. So on monday i had to do a stress test, found out i was fine, but out of shape. I explain to him that can't be the case, Bass fisherman are the most inshape people in all of sports : Jerk-it :Iconrotfl. Then I had a echocardiogram on tuesday for the click and murmur. Shouls hear about that on monday. They weren't to worried.

So looks like the pain was from this Hernia, I will take that anyday over the heart thing!

I hope I get to schedule this after the mbc classic, I need to pre-fish and get back on the water.

Hiatal Hernia, I have that and the pain from that was bad. I'd wake up in the middle of the night and it felt like someone sticking a knife in your gut and then turning it a few times and then push it in deeper. That was 15 years ago and it calmed down when I backed off the caffeine.

You will not catch me calling your wife an Old Polish ***....LMAO

What is a Schatzki ring?

Schatzki (Schatzki's) ring, is a narrow ring of tissue located just above the junction of the esophagus and stomach. The cause of Schatzki ring is not clearly known, however, some doctors believe they are caused by long term acid reflux. The symptoms of a Schatzki ring is food that becomes stuck in the esophagus. Diagnosis of Schatzki's ring is barium x-ray or endoscopy. Treatment is generally a procedure to stretch or fracture the rings.

Sometimes when I am eating the food becomes stuck in this area and becomes uncomfortable, half the time it will pass through the stomach and the other half....well don't be standing in from of me.

Now the procedure is to drink several 250ml containers of barium while the technician attempts to catch an xray of the rings. This is done to measure their diameter or get the best guess. From this the doctor has several choices to stretch the rings.

Prep is the worst. I gottas go in on the 15th to get a foot of my colon removed (ouch) Gonna be down for three weeks. You all stay away from the wife I know she has an awesome butt. Ive got the diverticulitus and hopefully they dont have to bag me. Anyone ever had this done before so I can kind of know what to expect?
my bro did. but not before his stoma broke. so his was an emergency operation. the bagging part sucked for him mainly case of having to empty it and the embarrassment of wearing it. keeping the wound clean and watching for infection seemed very important. he had a nurse come by to change the gauze and still needed to change it himself a time or two a day. the diverticulitus has changed his eating habits nothing seedy like popcorn, sesame seeds, and super spicy foods..
