It is funny. Things run in cycles. What works for some people like gangbusters one time out may not get a hit the next. People lose confidence and the next thing you know, all of the chatterbaits you bought are sitting in the unused section of the tackle bag.
My partner slayed them this year at Havasu along the reeds with chatterbaits. Running them parallel to the reeds in clear water and watching the fish dart out and grab the bait and head back in was a fun as watching a topwater blow-up. He always used the split tail trailer as well.
