Be angry....very angry. Freedom of the press is one thing, but blatant disrespect of a grieving family's wishes is ****ING WRONG. I hope that enough people are angered by this to make the Associated Press feel their wrath by hitting them in their pocketbook.
I thougth the samething when i saw the picture in the paper this morning. That sucks to do that to the family.
I agree; be angry! What kind of bullsh&t is this anyway? It's bad enough to lose a family member in a war and then have to see it blasted all over the papers.
kinda hoping cia sends a few marines to AP to kick the shit out of the editors.
God Speed Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Bernard, that you for making the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. Rest in Peace you mission is over Marine.

This rips both ways, and is deep. No respect at all from the AP.
This is a time where big goverment is needed......the White House should ban AP from doing business in the US

Franklin, as much as I agree with that sentiment, banning a news agency is walking on a slippery slope. Just because we don't agree with what they say or do, we cannot take away their freedom to say it. That is a precedent that we do not want to set. What we can (and should) do, is make a conscious decision to avoid purchasing ANY publication that uses AP as a news source, and let those publications know why they have lost our business. The AP will get the financial message.
I think News angencys should be banned from ANY and ALL warzones Period.
but thats just my opinion ;)

Very well said---That was wrong of AP to post that picture. What was appalling and totally disrespectful was that Marine Bernard's dad twice requested that the pictures not be published.

Slippery Slope? Slippery slope my BALLS!!! Ban them, pull their embedded reporters, to hell with them. This is America and the wish of an American Warrior's family should not only be heard but observed. He served our country and died in combat. Slippery Slope HA! You go sit in Afghan or Iraq and we will see about your slippery slope! I wish our government which I proudly serve and have for 17 years would let them drop! Let's grow a pair AMERICA!!!!! That's just my humble opinion.
Sergeant First Class Lorenzo G. French.....Slippery Slope.. Go hug a tree!!!
There is no way the government can ban the news agency.

I agree they f-ed up but the government cannot ban them, that would be a very large step against our rights as americans and a large step towards government sensorship.

Pull them as the embedded reporters and replace them with another agency. Then they cannot publicize the photos iif they don't have them!! Real easy. It's not sensorship, simply give the job to someone else!!!!!! You Fu$%ed UP!!! You're fired bob!! The only hard part is that there isn't another US news agancy to replace them with. Maybe we should pay Reuters to do the work so that we do not harm the memory and legacy of a fallen American Soldier!!

I completely disagree. Freedom of the press should remain free. Disgusting as it may be, I feel the press should always have the right to print what is factual and true. As a moral issue, pictures of grotesque mangled bodies of our sons and daughters ravaged by war is disenheartening to say the least, but this truly shows the effect of what actually happens in our unwinnable war!

Disclaimer: I'm not a left wing liberal and I'm actually a veteran. Bottom line for me is that we are losing our rights at an alarming rate for simple security.

To quote Benjamin Franklin:
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

Our government has been sensoring news agencies since WWI. Some is necessary. One of the biggest problems with our country is the press. Do you really ant to know everything our government has done, or not done? No! Would you want a picture of your son or daughter in that situation sent around the world? Really. NO! Thanks for your service!!

No I wouldn't want my son or daughter's body shown around the world. No loving parent would and thank you for the compliment on my service to our country. Yes! I really want to know what our country has done or not done. It will influence my decision in the next election! The biggest problem with our country is NOT the press. It's the aquiessance of the populace! Oh, by the way, sensorship deals with the senses. Censorship is what we are talking about. No offense intended.

Look all I am saying is some type of Censorship, not sensorship (no offense taken as I was a little angry, not sad and typing way too fast) is necessary. If you agree that the photo shouldn't be shown then you agree with some form of censorship since we allow them to take the photos. To what degree becomes the question. I don't agree with all of it either. I didn't agree when our government didn't allow video or photo's of our fallen Soldier's caskets returning from Iraq and afghan to be aired. We have to trust that our elected leaders make the right choices. As far as knowing everything our government has done or not done. I would never want to know, nor do I need to know. Not talking about individual politicians or parties, I mean our Government as a whole. Of course if I knew every politicians actions for real it would affect my decision during the next election. Bottom line photo should not have been aired period!

Go hug a tree? Obviously, SFC, you don't know me. No tree hugger here. I did my time in the military also, and am about as conservative as they come. I defended the rights of all Americans when I was in the service, not just the ones I agreed with. Thank you for your service, but as a current member of the armed forces, you should read the document that you swore to support and defend. We are in agreement as far as how we feel about this particular incident, and I can understand how in the heat of the moment, you could say what you're saying. The AP's handling of this incident is apalling and despicable.
Sorry bout the tree hugger thing. Thanks for your service too. However don't tell me as a current member of the armed forces what I need to read. I know the constitution very well. I wonder how well that young Marine knew it? Anyway, we have a President that is willing to step in and present us with lesson plans for our children's education, but can't censor one photo? You know what maybe the AP didn't drop the ball, our current administration did. Hell I guess they are too busy trying to tell the average AMERICAN what to. HA! I am outta here! Lorenzo
