Having trouble with my '97 Mercury XR-6 150 HP.

I have a '97 Merc. 150 XR-6 and I'm using a Hot Foot. When I put the motor into gear (all the way down), I can hear and feel the motor go into gear where it should but sometimes when I apply gas (to pick up speed) I'm experiencing a kachunk and feeling a "heavy" impact or knock in the motor/lower unit. It kind of feels like it's going out of gear. This never has happened once I get speed or when I'm running at or near wide open throttle. It only happens when I'm going from idle or very slow speed to get up on plane.

Any one ever have this happen or have any suggestions???

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Where would I check the linkage at Boat Cop? That's one thing I've been wondering, if there is too much slop, allowing it to slip back out...???

Darryl, I'm putting it into gear. The problem is after it's already in gear. I can be at a no wake speed for several minutes and when I hit the gas, that's when it's doing it.

Thanks again!
C'ya!

Adjustment should fix it. If not, you may have dog gears in the lower unit that are rounded off. Anytime you put it in gear, be the man and put it in gear quickly and all the way. Like it was mentioned before, check your fluid and hope you don't find metal parts.

Thanks Delw. ...do you still work on motors? If so, would you want to look at it if I find metal in the oil?
