So I am way up the Agua Fria arm and I'm looking at the bank wondering what all the little black dots are so I decide to take a closer look and this is what I see........Quaggas, millions of them - WTF?????

these mussles cleaned or cleared the water of the great lakes, just think how much clearer plez will get.
This morning I was talking with one of the maintenance guys for this park, he said the floating odd-house over in shithouse cove has a really large concrete square anchor holding it in place. Well it is a lot larger and it is not square anymore. It's covered in the quaggas. He said they do a great job of filtering the water, but as they filter they are taking nutrients out too and the repercussions from that is fry and shad that feeds of these same nutrients could and more than likely will have a serious impact on these fish. Time will tell.
They are sharp too, almost like really dull razor blades. Now I know why my line gets nics in it at Pleasant 10 times faster than any other lake.

On a side note...sorry about the blurry pictures. I took them with my cell phone while many boats and jet skis were blowing the no wake zone. You gotta love when people are not only wakeboarding past the no ski bouys but a mile past the no wake markers too. Freakin' lake lice.
I was wondering why the pictures were so blurry...I thought your camera was junk!
I hope the guys that fish other lakes along with Pleasant are making the effort to wash their boats before going elsewhere. My guess is bass fishermen are going to be a lot more conscious about that than Joe Ski Machine.
other states and lake powell have inspections, Az puts up signs!!, just a matter of short time till the mussels are in all of our lakes down here in the desert. Really surprised SRP has not put in more effort and $$ to help educate boaters they risk the most damage of anyone when those mussels invade irrigation gates, hydro electric units etc.

The big problem for fishermen is they clean the water so well the zoo planktin are gone and there goes the food for shad and small game fish. You thought the stripers might crash the food chain at pleasant the stupid mussel will do a better job of it!!

they do steam cleaning at lake powell if you are not certified mussel clean? wish they could come up with a dip like a flea dip you put your dog in?? where a person arriving at a lake would back the boat and trailer in a tank like the old test tanks they used to have at marine repair shops and then start and run the outboard for a few seconds, it would get into all the nooks of a trailer also and have some chemical that would not damage a boat/trailer or outboard that would kill those things quick and then let you go on to launch?

Really makes you wonder about the CAP pumping stations and how they are holding up!
How deep can mussels survive ? With the water dropping and leaving mussels on the exposed bank, will they die or go into a hibernation state untill the water level rises again ?

Just wondering with pleasant dropping as much as it does will have any affect on the mussels population

Good point
wtf is that???
It's a gooey duck! Seriously, you kids need to watch more TV. Dirty Jobs, Mike Rowe, they are found on the NW Coast. The Asians like to eat'em, no can of worms opened there, huh.
Sorry man, between fishing and college, I dont get much time to watch TV
Just messing with ya Joey! In college I could only get a couple stations, but for 1 semester I could tell you what was going on with the Young and the Restless, Haha. I hate TV, thank God my 3 year old yanks me away to go kick a ball, catch a lizard, or wahtever else is happening in the next 30 seconds.

It won't have any effect at all. Adults are able to detach and follow the water down while larval stage are in the water column all the time. Adults that don't detach and remain behind dry up and die. When they do, the shells open and the stink from rotting mussels fills the air. Nice.

O.C.
i rather have geoducks in pleasant than quagga muscles. geoducks are damn good eating. it's a saltwater critter though.
Alright those pics make me nervous I fish plez once a week. How long does it take for them to attach in my engine block?
