Got a friend coming into town on Monday and he wants to go to San Carlos. I have not fished there since Apr. I see the water level is at 3%. Can some one tell me if you can even launch a boat there now? Is it worth to go there and fish? Thanks

Why go there? Did he/she see the 74 pound catfish? I'm sure the crappie are pooled up by the dam. I love SC, but Rosey has more to offer.

Go to Rosey just up the street.
Have a friend that went there last weekend. He said you need a 4 wheel drive to launch at soda canyon. Fishing is very good though. Lake is very low.
what will the farmers do when the run out of water

Get bailed out by Obama. Maybe he will give the bass a bailout
The tribe will buy more water. Just need a huge snow this winter to get her 1/2 full.
where do you find the % full for san carlos?
Soda Canyon is still "launchable" 4wd is a plus.
Another couple of weeks and you'll have to launch at new Govt. because Soda will be low enough for you to sink in the silt.
Fishing is still very good.
My favorite lake is Rosey, but my friend has never fished San Carlos and has it in is mind that there are alot of big bass in there. I have been to San Carlos 4 times and have always launched at Soda. Where else is there to launch? Please help me talk my friend out of going there on Monday.
Just tell him that the water level is very low and you don't want to risk damaging your boat on shallow rock outcroppings that you don't know are there because nothing on that lake is marked and you have never been to it when it is this low.
Watch out for the shallow water on the right as you get out of the canyon headed uplake. Someone is going to lose a lower unit there.
As a matter of fact, keep your eyes glued to your graph the whole time you are on plane & dont go fast at all.
is the lake really at 3% or is that a misprint?

Actually, I think it's closer to 4 or 5% if I remember correctly from several years ago when it was at this level? The 1 or 2 percent more makes a big difference from being able to divert a fish kill at this time of year. I was there about ten days ago and the deepest water we found was less than 30 feet.
Even at this level the lake has a ton more surface area than Bartlett. You have to remember that Carlos at full capacity is just a hair smaller than Rosey.

Your right Darrin, we hit some 6 ft water running the middle of the lake before the lava beds. I just checked the level and it's gone down a little over a foot in the last 10 days.

I found some 2 foot deep water about 150' out from the shore there.. caught a 4.5 lber off of it last week.
