I'm not saying im for or against weed, but to say that it is good because it is natural is a bullsh*t arguement. Opium is natural!!! LEGALIZE OPIUM, ITS NATURAL.

Hell why not. and it's "ITS NATURAL" is a great argument. And Opium is used all over the US in forms of other drugs. That's what they make most of our pain killers from (Codeine, Morphine) There's a ton of other great drugs they use Opium for.
Who smokes ja ganja?

Is someone trying to justify their addiction ? :bong:

Or just looking for new customers ? :hitsfan:
Would be certain to increase the number of stoned drivers on the roads and lakes.

Why Marijuana Should be Legalized

Contrary to popular belief, marijuana was not made illegal in the US because it was considered a dangerous drug. Marijuana was made illegal in the United States for population control of Mexican and Black minorities in the 1930.

With a mix of racism, irrational fear and ignorance, legislators between the decades of 1910's-1930's sought ways to control minorities, afraid that they would one day overthrow the white government. According to Harry J. Asslinger, the first director of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, marijuana should be outlawed because of "...its effect on the degenerate races." and because "[marijuana] makes ******* think they're as good as white men."
Finally, after a series of congressional hearings in the 1930's, irrational fear won over science and marijuana was made illegal in 1937.

Fast forward to 2007, and marijuana is still very much illegal. Scientific evidence is mounting showing marijuana is not only harmless, but even beneficial. However, the US government is still going strong with its expensive "War on Drugs".

Here are my two cents on why marijuana should be legalized:

Medical reasons.
Medical studies of THC and Cannabinol (here's a good example) show marijuana can be used from nausea prevention and pain relief in chemotherapy patients to glaucoma. Legalization would most certainly lead to further scientific investigation

Save the money spent on the war on drugs and put it to better use.
Say education? Spending just a portion of the $20 billion spent on the much applauded albeit useless “war on drugs” (mostly war on marijuana) on education would improve the chances of younger generations to become more successful in life and decrease the chance of them falling prey of more dangerous drugs (meth comes to mind).

Control the market = reduce crime.

Dealing illegal drugs is very lucrative. Drug dealers form empires around illegal drugs, and they will stop at nothing to keep their money making empires. Legalize the drugs, prices drop, and drug empires hurt.

Stop Americans from subsidizing Middle-Eastern terrorists.
One way Islamic fundamentalists fund their organizations is through drugs. If the government controls the market, it can control where the drugs come from.

Replace extremists in the hearts of Middle-Eastern/South American rural farmers.
Instead of telling poor farmers in Afghanistan that they cannot grow hemp, buy all of their crops before Al-Qaeda does. Farmers will love America and hate Al-Qaeda. Isn’t that what we want?

Get rid of the coolness factor.
If marijuana were not illegal, would it be perceived as a cool recreational drug as it is now?

Eliminate the stigma of using marijuana…
… and chances are that more individuals will stick to marijuana instead of more dangerous drugs such as crack cocaine or methamphetamine. Eliminating the stigma on marijuana will also reduce the stigma of using other drugs, making it easier for individuals with a drug addiction to come out and seek help.

And finally…

Tax the product.
Taxing marijuana would open a brand new source of revenue for the government. Revenue that they could very well use in say….education?

Look at OR, WA and most of N. Cali. It has been "de-criminalized" there. Meaning you can have on your person up to a certain amount and not even get a misdemeanor ticket.... I wonder if the crime rate in those places has gone through the roof, or the DUI fatality rate? In my time spent up there most people in which I had contact with on a regular basis had a medical card, my boss had a card. They are openly allowed to grow a certain amount of plants, transport or possess a certain amount. Its a whole different culture up there, wonder how their coming along...

You already have it and you never hear any weed stories about how someone high caused a car accident. It is always alcohol related. Weed is not as powerful as alcohol but illegal. You can't OD from smoking weed. The drug makers don't want people using weed for medical purposes. They won't be able to control it. Instead the drug makers give out kick ass drugs that people take for mental issues and they are high and drive all the time.
I understand why a certain generation is so against weed. In school they use to spread propoganda about weed. And now until this day a lot of people will still sell that same government propoganda. I am all about personal freedom. It is a personal choice. Alcohol is also a personal choice.
Weed causing more crimes is another myth. The Netherlands is closing down prisons and Amsterdam is the weed capitol of the world.

Here is a classic government propoganda film:

Reefer Madness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2FZgErvNTE

I think I will go get some weed and watch this movie. I need some good laughs. This film is so full of shit it is funny. I can't believe old people still believe in the propoganda in this film.

That's a bunch of chit right there. Granted, the number is small when compared to alcohol DUI's, but the accidents still happen. I've been privileged enough to see a handful personally. One stoned idiot came to work and turned over a multi-million dollar haul truck in the process of avoiding a bridge piling that there's no possible way to hit from the road (great perception there), another moron decided to come to work high and ran into the tail of a parked truck (great reaction time there), and there's been others. THC was the only drug found in either example's system.

There's been plenty of other examples in the past, those are just two of the most glaring, with the highest potential to kill an innocent bystander.
i was going to say something.... but... i forgot....well.. anyway... cheeto's and beer rock...
oh yeah.... ZEPPELIN!!!! and something about obamma...no.... wait... nevermind dude...

Cocoa- you think we should legalize opium? Basically opening up the use of heroin???
Heroin does create stand up citizens in society and it’s not addictive at all, right? Hell why we're at it lets sell morphine over the counter, its produced "NATURALLY" in opium poppies. Opium and Morphine have created some outstanding drugs for controlled use in the clinical atmosphere, but these same two chemical have created hell on the streets.
Just because they tested positive for weed doesn't mean they were high at work. All the test proves is they smoked pot in the last month. Kind bud 2 months. It does not prove that they were high at work, but I wouldn't be suprised if they were high at work. I can go home on Friday and do an eight ball and be clean for work on Monday because that drug doesn't stay in your system that long. A week later I could have a massive heart attack and crash a bull dozer and kill some one. All due to the coke, but no one would ever know.
As for your great reaction time thing. I would have to say the dude from the winter olympics that got his gold taken away had great reaction time. On weed and the best in the world. Right there is the poster child for weed. All the dudes in the x-games are all on weed and have great reaction time. A surfer that doesn't smoke weed sucks. Rappers glorify weed in their lyrics. The youth is blazing away. It is only a matter of time before you old brain washed fools go away and the decriminalization of marijuana will happen. That way you can make a personal choice and make a decision like alcohol. We will gain one of our personal freedoms back that we lost in the last 100 years.

:IconrotflGood observation.
If I worked for a big delivery company I wouldn't tout the virtues of a mind altering drug. You never know who is reading this stuff. My nephew has been firing up a joint first thing every day for the past 20 years. He also says it is harmless and he beileves it. He has as many brain cells left as an amoeba. I have friends that are dead, some are in prison and two that murdered each other over a pot deal. Just a harmless natural plant, so is hemlock natural. Would you allow your kids to ride in a vehicle driven by some pot head if you were aware he was high. If so you don't deserve to be a parent. By the way, I tried it and then it was hash then acid and then I wised up. It all started with a few hits at a party. So yeah, fire up a doobie it can't hurt ya and your buds will think your cool.. JMHO !!
Wow, I got the entire weak-assed excuse combo plate there. The simple fact is that THC has a negative effect on neurocognitive function (reaction time, perception and balance), which has been documented consistently by numerous sources.

Wow, rappers, snowboarders and surfers smoke weed. There's the endorsement I was needing to change my views. I look to Spicoli (Fast times at Ridgemont High) as the intellectual role model for my kids, so I guess I should tell them to go ahead and spark up.

Who is "brainwashed"?
