Mariner vs. Mercury.Any input on these two engines would be helpful. I'm looking to buy an older boat ('88 Champion,18')and I found two boats.

The Mercury is a 150 hp XR4, 2 stroke. only has a 125 hours it. He has all of the mainteance records and has changed out the empeller on a yearly basis. I like this one!

The other is a Mariner 150 hp,also has all of the records. no leaks. turn key ready.

I myself prefer Johnson or Yamaha motors, but I can't be choosy right now. if you have some helpful feedback, fire away!!!

mercury and mariner are the same manufacturer. just like johnson and evinrude are.

I know they Mercury and Mariner fall under the same manufacturer , but do they use better materials, parts, and such in the Mercury?

Matt, Ive got a one ove each, Merc on my skeeter and mer on my Procraft. I have to say the Merc is better. Seems more powerful and has less troubles.
