Merc oil ?

844 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  waterdog
I went to the boat store today for some more 2 stroke oil.
All they had was the Quicksilver DFI Synthetic Blend. I have a 2001 XR6 CARBERATED. He said this stuff will work and is actually better.
Well I bought a gallon but I'm not to thrilled about putting something different in my boat.
Is this stuff ok?
Thanks for any info.

I BUY IT IN BULK. I USE IT IN OUR 200HP MERC. AND MY 75 FORCE WHICH IS CARB. IT SMOKES ALOT LESS AND THE PLUGS DON'T FOUL AS BAD.
i was told as long as it says tc-w3 it's okay. i ran the cheap walmart stuff before and didn't make a difference.

it did smoke less like dave said.
The Quicksilver oil is the same stuff.
3 good replys in a row, I'm putting it in.
Thanks guys.
The Quicksilver oil is the same stuff.
That's what I was thinking. Thanks.
AMERICAN BASSMAN,

Optimax/DFI oil is not rated TC-W3.

Does that mean it's not good for an XR-6? I don't know. Play it safe and run the reccomended Premium or Premium Plus oil.

OOHH CRAP!! I already put it in.
Quiksilver is Mercury oil, same formulation, etc. It's Mercury's way for non-dealers to provide their product and not step on the your local authorized Mercury dealer's feet.
Whoever needs some...pm me and I'll hook you up.
The oil says it is not recommended for units that use TC-W3.
If that is true then why would a local salesmen tell me it is even better than the normal Quicksilver. Since it's in the boat already and mixed with the oil already in their, I'm going to run it.
It's a gallon of the synthetic blend mixed with about 3/4 gallon of normal oil.
I wont do it again though.
outboard oils

IT IS A GOOD POLICY NEVER TO MIX DIFFERENT OIL TYPES.SOME CONGEAL,GEL UP,ETC. SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE.GOOD LUCK
