Hello all. This will be my first post on these forums. I'm generally a lurker and I have to say this forum has been a treasure trove of information so far. I've been fishing all my life, but recently I've gotten pretty serious about it. Before it was hooks and worms under a bobber and that type of stuff, but recently I'm full on jonesing to catch a fat ass bass pretty much every waking moment. Not sure what happened but there you go... So on to my question:
I've been researching a good spinning rod and reel combo for dropshotting/finesse fishing for the last month or so. I was trying to stay in the range of 150 to 200 bucks and was looking at some St. Croix rods and Shimano reels. Ultimately with the 40% off on G. Loomis rods at Sportsmans, I ended up walking out of there with a Shimano Saros reel and a G. Loomis Bronzeback SMR811S-SP. Hadn't planned on the G. Loomis, but with a deal like that I couldn't turn it down! What I didn't realize is this is more of a light/fast action rod for Smallmouth. My question is will this be a good rod for Dropshotting and other types of finesse fishing with Largemouth Bass? It feels really good sensitivity and weight wise and doesn't feel too flimsy. But I generally see that most Largemouth Bass rods for finesse fishing are Medium strength /Fast or XFast. Thought I'd ask the experts. I've been scouring these forums for a while and you guys have already given me some great advice. Any input will be appreciated.
