:lol: Holy carp! These things look great(That may be the problem...seems things that look great dont work great, usually). Of course I DIDNT buy any and and WONT be trying them out :wink: .....but if I did, I bet they would work!

It seems to me that you would not be able to feel the bottom with the rubber over the head. Westys are fines bait and very light, I like to feel the contact of the bait on the bottom at all times. They do look pretty cool though.

The clicking is what makes them work so great . so the rubber will make them not click.

Tube baits rigged on a tube jig with the lead head inside the tube don't "click" either. Of course those don't work, so don't bother with them.

Then there are Senkos. No lead to click on the bottom either. Don't bother with them either, they don't work.

Both ot the above baits will frequently be hit while they are falling. A Westy, so I'm told, will also frequently be hit on the fall. Maybe the new style Westy works better on the fall? Maybe there are times when the bite is real tough when clicking noises actually prevent bites?. Why modify the new style Jason? If you want a clicking noise use the old style.

Thanks for that clarifiacation, I was begining to wonder if the 100's of fish I have caught on falling westy's at roosevelt was a fluke or just a retarded fish.

For me useing westy's 90% of my bites are after I have hit the cliffs or rocks on the bottom. Thats why I said clicking. I have caught very few fish where the bait is falling on the first cast and not hiitting the bottom, usually its on the fall but after the westy is bounced off the bottom a few times.

When the fish are finicky I try a westy/wired worm and can usually get hit, I believe its due to the noise it makes when its hits a hard object.
I mainly fish rocks and cliffs with these baits so I am going by my own experiance.

this year I been using westys /wired's an mainly my own version of a westy/wired worm and been doing pretty good.

If I run out of jig heads for my own worms I take the back hook off the westy/wired worm, this allows it to stick out and have a little more action. I found this to work a little better than the stock westy/wired worm, plus takeing the back hook out(for me) has giving me a better sized fish than having the back hook in.
I think its due to the fact that a small bass will hit the tail and if there is a hook on the tail it will get hooked, where a bigger bass will engulf the whole worm .

I just cant leave good enough alone, thats why I modify things. All I do is glue a small worm rattle on the worm. No biggie :wink:
