How is this store? Soon I will be treating myself to a new Stradic and figured instead of mail ordering it I would check out a local store....hows the rod/reel/bait selection? I hear its a big place.....
Thanks
Jason

Phx Fishing has a huge selection Talk with Jimmy or Gowdy tell them Jerry sent you. I find them better than Internet sales as far as far as pricing, no shipping and they will spool line for free.

Phx Fishing is THE only place to get your tackle. If they do not have it, they will get it for you, and the prices are right. Gray, Gowdy's dad, used to babysit my dad, so they treat me like royalty but the thing is, they treat ALL like that. I would much rather buy my tackle from an Arizona born and raised family than from some anonymous corporate entity back East. Trust me, you will never meet a nicer, more real, family of people than the Toys of Phx Fishing. Go and tell them that Tom Loughran sent you. I know, the flames can fly, (I have an infamous name on this site) but I have the utmost respect for this family and they respect mine. They will not steer you wrong. Go. Go now. Or when they open at least! They have an awesome selection and it is ALL reasonably priced. Later...
p.s. They have a ton of Loomis rods.[/b]

Jason,

Its good you are planning on buying your Stradic locally! Support our local tackle stores. I don't like to think of a time when all the local stores have succumbed to the competition from the big mail order houses, e-bay, and the big box stores. The prices on the big ticket items are going to be the same or close to it, but you get to see it up close, hold it, kick the tires so to speak, and get your questions answered by people who know. Best of all you get to take it home with you now vs. waitng for the UPS truck. That's real nice after you lost your last Lucky Craft Pointer pre-fishing, the tournament's on Saturday, and its the only thing that's working! Sure, you'll pay a little more for lures and stuff, but I've never had BassProShops tell me what's working on Pleasant either.

In case you don't know, Bear Mountain Sports in Mesa gives 10% off on rods and reels and 25% off other tackle if you mention you heard it on AZBassPro. Tell them Denny sent you and they'll say "Who?"

Well, I hate to be a descenting voice when it comes to Phx Fishing. When I started back fishing 2 years ago, I went in there to get some stuff. I felt I was not treated very well and basically told to "buy a boat". Maybe the person was having a bad day, but it turned me off to that store. First impressions are important.

I have good luck with WDW(43rd&Olive) and Fisherman's Choice(35th&TBird). Yes I have bought mail order(and may still in the future) and Yes, I still buy stuff from Wal-Mart and Sports Authority, but I buy as much as I can from the small shops.

I heard it from a reliable source, I am heading down there next week. Really sad. Dreamer I hope it's a rumor., I would not kid around with something like that. Also ask Gowdy about the acorn.
Also tell Gowdy you want him to start carrying Okuma and Marado reels.

Steve
Sorry your experience was not good. Jimmy and Gowdy clown around alot. Gowdy and Jimmy always give me a bunch of crap but
it's all in fun, I give it back.

It's a joke man. Okuma's are cheap copies (knock offs) of other quality reels. The fit and finish are poor, anodizing is cheap looking. Thats for the outside, just looking at the outside makes me wonder how bad they are on the inside.

That sucks about Mary.
If this is the lady I remember when they had the wholesale gun dept. in the back, I remember her well. She was a very nice lady.
I was down there almost everyday way back then when I had my FFL licence.
All those people that worked in the gun dept were great.

Im going to have to check out the store, Im not too fond of Overpriced Willy's (oops, I mean waterdog willys), and didnt really like the selection at Fishermans choice. Im sick of seeing the same brands (IE Roboworms...they do work but I think the fish see them so much they know the stock numbers by heart) and need a bigger selection. Plus, when I get a new reel, I can bring the rod into the store and see if it feels right. Cant do that on the internet.
