In the East Valley you have Tempe Town Lake and ASU Research Park that have bass and only require a state license. Does anyone know of any places like that in the West Valley or North Phoenix? Lake Pleasant is only a half hour drive, but can be hard to fish from shore. With the new baby, I'm having a hard time finding time to get out and fish. Just wondering if I have a close option. Thanks!

Westside

I live on the west side too, out by Luke AFB.....try some golf course ponds(I would suggest going at night). Pleasant is 45 mins from where I live...I hate fishing from the shore there unless the water is up...you can always get a float tube!

The west side is bad for public fishing. There are a lot of places to go if you are willing to take a chance with getting kicked off.
I spent alot of time fishing Pleasant from shore last year and did reasonably well. I will agree with JasonR though, I hate fishing it from shore. Depending on where you are, Bartlett could provide an option. I bought a kickboat awhile ago, but have yet to have any luch with it. The shoreline, wind and boat traffic at pleasant all affect when/ where I can use it.

Steve....at Pleasant we have a few spots that are pretty safe from the boats and craziness that goes on at Pleasant....the entrance that goes to the 10 lane, go there, ignore the turn to the 10 lane (dont speed) and keep driving, headed to the sheriffs station. There is a spot where the road ends, and it says ROAD CLOSED...in high water, that cove is great. Also, the dirty shirt area is worth a check, even in low water. Try to the left of the Castle creek 4 lane too. Lots of structure, and the boats usually arent too bad. Of course, I usually get out there on a week day and in summer the weekends are a zoo. Bartlett is a blast to tube....we fish Rattlesnake and do well....well, Franklin doesnt but thats b/c he cant fish.

Thanks. Those are ususally the areas I fish as well. My problem is getting close enough to the water without getting into the mud. My kickboat weighs about 70lbs with all my gear., so I don't want to be hauling it too far.

How's the access at Rattlesnake? I've been wanting to try Bartlett. I've also heard around the marina can be good.

I've been toying with the idea of heading out during the week and going in late. Maybe we can hook up.

Rattlesnake access is great, but if you tube weighs 70 lbs, you may need to steal a burro from Pleasant and strap it to his back to carry it to the shore, its a walk. I think next time I hit Bartlett Im gonna try the Marina, but my days of fishing weekdays are over for now, Im going to day shift for the next year. That sucks.
