Hello everyone. Today I came across a great deal on a 1997 18 ft. Quantum bass boat with a 120 force. We have just been looking around trying to find out what we like and what we don't and also what's affordable. I know a lot of you have had experience with these engines, what did you like? Not like? Any horror stories? Any success stories? Has anyone fished out of or own a Quantum bass boat? Decent boats or not? Thanks. Josh

Josh I have not had a personnal experience but my friend has had a lot of trouble with the force motor. I would have to call to be EXACT but he's had it in the shop 5 times that I know of in 2years. He had a trim issue also that he cannot get fixed due to no parts anymore so they reworked in another brand and it works but not perfect. I believe that his motor is a 96-97 his boat is a 97 so maybe that. Good luck, take your time and think about your fishing needs a few years from now and purchase wisely. Complete Marine has provided 2 used boats to my buddy and his dad. They got a great deal and beautiful new rides. No advertising meant there just my opinion. Champion Boats Rock!!!!

Being a used boat. you want to check certain things.

compression: if there is any deviation between cylinders dont buy it.
take it to the lake and make sure it preforms well.

As far as force motor. merc bought them out. you can get parts through any merc dealer. some merc parts are interchangeable with some force parts. (some water pump ompellers)
Force motors are not bad now that parts are avail locally
Glendale marine has a pretty big stock pile of force parts.

Ive worked on quite a few force products while working for glendale marine, they are not bad motors.

I wouldnt own one, but then I said that about omc also and I now have a boat with a 200hp johnson on it.

I like mercs cause they are easy to work on and parts are all over the internet and wholesalers have them. They are very popular in AZ.

I would stick with a "name brand" boat and motor. 5 years from now it will have given you better service and when you go to sell it it will have a much better resale value. Just my 2¢.
