Kasey and I fished Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. with Jim Warnecke , fisheries program manager for the Game and Fish Department. We caught 17 big crappie trolling jigs (11) and crankbaits (6) in 25 to 29 feet of water east of Windy Hill. There were even more boats out than yesterday.......Art

had to be at least 70 boats

counted 45 rigs at windy hill parking lot,15 at the east launch and numerous boats coming in from marina launch and other parts of lake bet there were 70 plus boats today in the floatilla,think I will open a floating snack bar and bait shop on the edge of the floatilla?? :lol:

Why is it so good for crappie right now?

This is nothing new. January has been a very good month for catching suspended crappie out in open water. Their out there because the shad go out there. This bite will be good right up until they start for the shallows to go on the beds, usually in March.....Art

ARt, you say you are catching them in 25-29 feet but I'm assuming you mean the boat is in 25-29 feet and you are trolling for suspended fish located somewhere in between, am I correct? If so, what depth are the Crappie holding at?

That's correct. The crappie usually are suspended at 12 to 16 feet, when active, no matter the overall depth of the water.....Art

Hey Art! Good trip! We were up at the trailer there this weekend, but it was a work weekend - no fishing. Saw lots of boats out there though! Great weather too! We should have scratched the clean up idea and took the boat! LOL
