·My wife, Judy passed away today. She and I have been married over 25 years. She supported my addiction to fishing. She would ask what I needed to the point of details, so she could buy the right saltwater reel, or tackle. Was kind of funny, one year she asked me what would be a nice reel I could get for you. I told her a gold one!!!
I was hoping for an AVET, Penn International or a Shimano Trinidad. She saw an advertisment in Cabelas saltwater catalog for a Megacast suitable for the saltwater. I did not say a word. I took this reel out to test it on a 1/2 day charter up at La Jolla kelp beds. I hooked into a 1-2 lb Calico bass. As soon as I hooked it, a sea dog ate the bass and I was hooked into 350lb + sea dog. The sea dog ruined the reel, stripped the gears and bent the frame as the deck hand and I tried to get it close enough to cut the line. I brought the reel home and showed her what had happend. She felt really bad. She asked me if she had bought the wrong reel. I said no but an Avet to replace this would be nice. Well the next week I ended up with a 2 speed Blue Avet. What a women, spend $300 on a reel. I will surley miss her.
