Fishing was good.
Just no fish.
Tried all new places too. Started inside the buoys east of Shiprock. Got 2 good bites on ds. Tried Rico, crank, ds. When it got dark we headed in and worked the shoreline east of the dam. There are some awesome ds spots in there! Was really frustrating though last night. They were jumping and wouldn't take the Rico or the crankbait. Then pulled out the UL rods and tried for some bluegills around the ranger station. Both rigs got tangled beyond repair. I think it was a combo of older line and too much line spooled on. Went back to ds and worked back to the ramp. Also had an adventure last night. Always seems like something happens. Got to the lake, got the boat prepped and unhooked ONE of the hooks - the wench strap. Well we have a backup chain and I left that one hooked so alas, the boat wouldn't launch without me. Backed down the ramp, pulled up just a bit and felt a little jerk! I looked back and you guessed it. The backup chain snapped (which I hadn't yet realized) and the boat decided to go for a float! I was second guessing myself due to being blonde. "hmm...did I really unhook BOTH hooks?" Roni is at the ramp and a couple of guys were sitting on the little beach area beside the ramp and I heard one say "way to go". :x Well it was actually floating toward the ramp so I pulled the truck up and parked, figured I'd just have to wait for another boat to come along to take us to ours if it hadn't managed to get to the dock. When I got out of the truck and checked the trailer, I saw the chain had snapped. When I started walking toward the ramp I saw Roni sitting on the dock, feet in the boat, reading a book! Whew! No lost fishing time!! 8)
