august 14 night / 15th day. My dad went out for crappie, only boated 4. he said water was very stained and dirty.
Damn, I figured with the lake so low they'd be thick around the dam.
The crappie had a heck of a population thinning happen to them this year so I'm not surprised the bite is not strong right now. It could be a few years before it is great again.

+1 you crappie dudes pounded the snot out of them this year......

How nice it would be if you boys could hit the stripers at Pleasant with such vigor. :icon_twis
the night of august 8th my dads 4 friends caught a limit of 100 around the dam area on jigs tipped with minnow. so i know people didnt put a dent int the population. just something rolled in and stopped the bite when my dad went.

I didn't say they were extinct, just that many hundreds of thousands left the lake with happy anglers, it had to hurt the numbers.
I would wager the crappie population at SC is more than 10 million. You would have to have a massive fish kill to hurt the population. Thinning the herd will ensure that the population will not exceed the carrying capacity of the lake and also will prevent stunting growth of the smaller fish. I remember reading the crappie population estimate (courtesy Jim Warnecke at G & F, now retired) at Roosevelt a few years ago exceeded 17 million. So catch away crappie fishermen!

Red, what do you mean, hella bass guys were out there getting some Crappie action. Hell I met you there

I'm not worried about the population, I'm worried about hitting my out drive on something.
