satellite tv question

Okay I have direct tv at my house with 3 recievers. Is it possible that i can take the third reciever to my office and have it work the same way if I have an extra satellite dish at my office?

Has anyone else tried this or does it work?

Thanks.

Yes it will work. I have worked for Direct Tv in the past and both my brothers and my Dad still work there. Let me know if you need anything.

I was wondering something about installation. I am moving this weekend and the house I am moving to has existing cable line that I think runs through the attic. The house is for standard cable but I would like to keep my sattelite without having to run line down the side of the house. Is it possible to splice into the existing cable? Thx in advance.

You don't want to splice into any cable you will have a db loss there and your picture will suffer. You can find the end outside and connect there. Just make sure that the cable is not split in the attic. I like to put the dish close to the cox box on the side of the house so I can just jump on those lines. Hope this helps! oh yea and I think it is still free for them to move you. just take your receivers and tv's and give them a call.

Cool man. Thanks for the info..
In theory, it should work fine. Don't let on the direct that your plans, they won't be happy. Have you aligned a dish before? It can be a bitch. Let us know how it works out.

I thought they were coded by zipcodes or something. I moved once and I thought they said I would need a new box because the filter was differnet in that zip? Or some chit like that, that is how they keep people form selling them on e-bay or gargae sales because if you just pick one up somewhere else it won't work at your house? Doesn't it have to be coded to get a signal from that specific dish??? Again not telling... asking.
We have DISH up north and a lot of people do what your saying. They just take the box with them. Dirrect TV a few years a go you just had to take the card with you you could by the receiver on line.

Cable TV coax has a different impedance from satellite TV coax. One uses RG-58 and the other RG-59, but I don't remember which is which.
I have three in my home and the forth I have in my Toyhauler and an extra dish on a tripod. All I do when I get where I'm going os plug in the local Zip Code , wait for the cord's and dial the dish in. You just need to pay for that box to be active. $5 per month.
In theory you could split sat with a family member across the country. I know people who split the cost with their neighbors.
