Joe had a good report for Canyon. My question is what kind of cranks & colors do you use to catch smallmouths? do they like Normans? Thanks in advance. Matt

smallmouth cranks at canyon

In August I caught a 4-lb smallie on a big silver/blue rattletrap. I've also caught a lot more smaller ones on different sizes of the same color.

Man, it's been a long time since I've thrown a Big O. Do you still have a Thin Fin in your collection? I love those things!! Use to throw count down Rapalas and Bayou Boogies too. I'll give the Big O's a try, Rattle Traps, Rebel craw cranks, and Rapala Fat Raps. I'm feeling pretty frisky, I might throw a brass Kastmaster too!!! Thanks guys!

A good cold water technique; throw out a Bayou Boogie and let it sink. Wait about 30 seconds and lightly jerk/pull it off the bottom, but reel in the slack, on the fall. Maintain the "feel" of the lure on the way down, that's when the fish will hit it. it's a lot of fun. It works great in the local ponds too! Use pearl or a baby bass colored bait. Change the trebles out to a reliable one like Gammys or Owner. Stick with it and practice, it really works! Good luck!!! :D
